Spring names for girls?

Trying a different tack as still stuck with names! Our DD will born in April, so I thought maybe a Spring-related name. Some we've considered:

Persephone - but we have a friend called that already.
Olwen - (Welsh goddess of flowers and springtime) - I like but DP not keen.
Freya - (Nordic fertility Goddess linked with spring growth and flowers) DP loves but I'm not keen as very popular not so long ago
Maia - (Spring goddess) - lovely name but very Maya is popular and a friend's DC called this already

Generally we like Celtic and more unusual names (we have Welsh and Scottish heritage) - not so keen on popular names like Lily, Rose, Iris, April etc.

I'd be grateful fro any help, I'm sure her name is out there somewhere but atm I'm stumped!
TIA :)

How about Aviva? That's the Hebrew word for Spring (and my daughter's Hebrew name Smile)

amck5700 · 18/02/2013 16:17

I know a Fallon - she doesn't look like that :)

PipkinsPal · 18/02/2013 16:34

Fern, Fleur, Roisin, Heather, Violet, Melissa (honey bee).

Jonquil is my favourite spring flower name. It's a form of daffodil/ narcissus

flowers123 · 19/02/2013 11:05

how about Heather but I am a little biast as its my daughters name x

Insecure24 · 19/02/2013 18:36

Aurelia Smile

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 19/02/2013 18:51

How about Aufaniae Wink

Btw you mentioned Pascal earlier, I'd probably spell it Pascale for a girl, it's different and sounds just a bit foreign and interesting.

armagh · 19/02/2013 19:16

Realta (pronounced rayltha) is star in irish. With a fada(line) over the e.
Is Etoile star in french?
Aurelie is a lovely gentle name.
Jolie( pretty in french ) is lovely

"I know you may not want to share the surname but I find that helpful as some names go with some surnames better than others"

Surname begins Mc (Scottish obviously!)

DD will have Scottish, Welsh and English heritage - going back to her GPs' generation, and Irish and Estonian also going one generation further back. (Totally outing myself there to anyone who knows me! Grin)

Loving the star suggestions, thanks :)

DP really likes Roisin but I'm not as keen.

Heather's lovely, but still not "the one".

Not easy this baby naming lark is it?!

Briallen
Kalantha
Primavera
Honeysuckle
Sakura
Florence
Renata
Brooke
Appolline
Jasmine
Blodwen
Camelia
Ainsley
Kaelyn

aufaniae · 20/02/2013 01:20

Ooh I love Briallen. Reckon the English would struggle with the double L though! Probably not really fair as we live in England atm!

Ooh, we have a contender (or two!).

We both like Enfys, it's going on the list, along with Cerys.

aufaniae · 20/02/2013 01:58

Definitely still up for suggestions though, not 100% sure on either, and got about 8 weeks to go!

Having second thoughts about Enfys! The NN would be Envy wouldn't it?!

Keep coming back to Cerys. I wonder if the letters are a bit hard-sounding though?

I think I'd like a softer sound. I really like the sound of names like Roisin, Eira, Estelle, Nia but have reasons not to use each of them.

How about Anaïs (pronounced an-eye-eece)? It's my dd 2's middle name.
Not a star or Spring name, but it's soft and gentle sounding without being frilly IYSWIM.

pinkandyellowbutterfly · 20/02/2013 10:29

Mellissa means 'bumblebee' :-)

amck5700 · 20/02/2013 10:33

what about Carys instead of Cerys - sounds a lot softer. or just Cara.

pinkandyellowbutterfly · 20/02/2013 10:49

Mellissa means 'Bumble bee' :-)

steppemum · 20/02/2013 11:21

Has anyone mentioned Talia? It means blossom

aufaniae · 20/02/2013 15:21

Melissa = bumblebee is a lovely image :)

But I'm afraid it's too popular. DS has a pretty unusual name (well unusual in England anyway - Irish people know it). A very common name wouldn't sound like a sibling pair IMO.

FWIW the thing that makes me hesitate most about Cerys is its popularity. It even made the top 100 within the last decade.

I think there were something like 7 children with DS's name in the year he was born!

If you move away from the spring link, then Cerenza /Kerenza is pretty and not very common.

Insecure24 · 20/02/2013 18:33

Jasmine
Alice
Aurelia
Emilia
Emmeline
Lottie
Talia
Mia
Nylah

Not spring-like though!
