Ruth?

Wondering what the general opinion of Ruth is?
Granny chic? Or just granny?
I think it's lovely and would suit a little girl. I also think it's a nice name for an adult. It's just barely heard of. Does it have the same appeal of say Martha?

I've only ever known one Ruth. She'd be about 22 by now. Lovely name, suits a little girl, a teen and a woman.

I like it and my daughter has a 14 year old friend called Ruth. It makes a nice change from the longer names that are fashionable now.

Bunbaker · 20/01/2013 18:51

Love it. We have a Ruth in our family.

DessieLou · 20/01/2013 18:54

I know a really lovely Ruth who goes by Ruthie. I really like it and it will definately be considered for another dd if we have one. Go for it!

bigbadbarry · 20/01/2013 18:55

Lovely :)

thewhistler · 20/01/2013 18:55

I love it.

Ragwort · 20/01/2013 18:56

Agree, lovely name.

Lulabellarama · 20/01/2013 18:56

My sister is Ruth, she's 27. I love it.

BanghamTheDirtyScone · 20/01/2013 18:57

Sorry, so sorry but I really cannot like it.

Martha is much nicer though.

friendlymum67 · 20/01/2013 18:58

I love it - tho am slightly biased as its my name (do hope this doesn't out me!) Grin

VoldermortOrJackBauer · 20/01/2013 18:59

Gorgeous name

yoyo123 · 20/01/2013 18:59

I love Ruth..Not over popular, but a lovely name. My daughter is Anna ( she just looked like one) there are not many people with her name , but it is not a @wild and whacky' name. I went to school with 2 Ruths in the 70's and they were both lovely people!

JimbosJetSet · 20/01/2013 19:03

... I second Cakethrow!!

Iris1 · 20/01/2013 19:04

Wow the replies have really made me smile. I do know of one lady called Ruth who I went to school with, and she must be around 28 now and she was lovely and classy.

What middle name would you pair it with?

It's underused.

I adore the name Martha.

Martha and Ruth could be sisters . (But Martha would be older Wink)

I know several people my age called Ruth, but no children. DS did go to school with a Ruth-Anne, though.

Iris1 · 20/01/2013 19:10

lynette Martha and Ruth are fab sibling names, and I can just see it with Martha being older and more sensible and Ruth would be adventurous and a bit silly!

Love Ruth. I only know two, both are beautiful looking & have gorgeous personalities Smile. Love Martha too.

happyhorse · 20/01/2013 19:23

I think it's a dull name, very beige.

Eebs · 20/01/2013 19:32

My name is Ruth and I have never liked it especially as I am from Essex and got called Roof. But now I have heard all these lovely comments about the name I will shift my opinion! I do like being called Ruthie though and think its an especially lovely nn when they are small.

I have a dd Martha but am not a fan of Ruth for some reason.
Something about the way it sounds I don't like.
But it's not a terrible name infant I'd love it on someone else's child just not my own.

Selks · 20/01/2013 19:44

It's a great name. Could work really well with a bit more 'showy' middle name such as Ruth Francesca

MadBusLady · 20/01/2013 19:48

I know a really cool Ruth (late 30s) so yes, like it.
