Thoughts on Paddington, Thatcher or Kipling

I need some honest opinions as we are getting no where with a boys name. 9 weeks to go.

For a girl was keen on jemima Elizabeth Matilda or maybe Cleopatra. Etc.

Don't want a name that is common, or Jack, Harry but also don't want something made up. Needs to have a nickname /formal name they can grow with.

I go through stages if liking the below to thinking they are mean. Please let me know your thoughts not any other suggestions are welcome.

Paddington/ Paddy
Thatcher/Thatch
Kipling/kip
Frederick/Freddie
??????

Please help,

There's a leyton at our school.

Surname Brom ley. I kid you not.

AlwaysHoldingOnToStarbug · 13/01/2013 09:49

Paddington = Bear
Thatcher = Margaret
Kipling = Rudyard, cakes or bags
Frederick = fine, good name.

MrsHoarder · 13/01/2013 09:58

Wondering whether the op was serious, but if you want unusual why not try Winston. Still a good sold Tory name, but its actually a Christian name, nit a surname.

Paddington is a station, and paddy is an odd nickname to use if you're not Irish.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 13/01/2013 16:19

Finchley would work as both a Thatcher tribute and a London station.

Middle name: Central.

I'm trying to imagine what would happen if a kid called Thatcher grew up (the 2 places) where I'm from - they would have changed their name to Bob or maybe Karl. No just no
Paddington is awful. If you want paddy just do Patrick
Frederick is nice
Not Kipling but if you are that way inclined - Rudyard?
Clarence/Richard ?
Algernon? (at least it is an actual first name)
Archibald ?

TidyDancer · 13/01/2013 19:41

Gosh. Frederick is nice, but the others are completely awful. Sorry.

Branleuse · 13/01/2013 19:42

you cant call a kid Thatcher.

Yfronts · 13/01/2013 19:51

Kit?

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 14/01/2013 02:08

Grin, just...... Grin

zingally · 14/01/2013 14:43

I've heard of some American's called Thatcher, so it's just about tolerable. Paddington and Kipling are just opening up for a lifetime of abuse.

EmpressOfThePuddle · 14/01/2013 17:01

That's in America though. Here, the name Thatcher has very specific connections.

If it wasn't a fred about fred risk, I'd take it over to the thread about judging kids by their names.

Anonymumous · 14/01/2013 19:12

Darwin? Newton? Nelson? Wellington? Julius? Drake? Raleigh? Shackleton? Edmund? Edison? Gladstone? Byron?

Or for girls, Emmeline? Sylvia? Victoria? Florence? Vivienne? Boadicea? Margaret? Marie?

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 14/01/2013 20:23

Or if we're going with bears, how about Pooh?

Perfect.

EmpressOfThePuddle · 14/01/2013 22:19

I feel sorry for the OP now. If she was serious, anyway.

Dinglebert · 14/01/2013 23:26

Freddie only - sorry.

When he gets to school, he will probably have Kipper the dog in his reading books too.

Maybe it's pregnancy hormones - what did you like BEFORE you were pregnant? Sorry - I'm not meaning to be rude

tethersend · 14/01/2013 23:29

I like Etc. for a girl.

Dadmaq · 13/04/2013 09:17
