Thoughts on Paddington, Thatcher or Kipling

I need some honest opinions as we are getting no where with a boys name. 9 weeks to go.

For a girl was keen on jemima Elizabeth Matilda or maybe Cleopatra. Etc.

Don't want a name that is common, or Jack, Harry but also don't want something made up. Needs to have a nickname /formal name they can grow with.

I go through stages if liking the below to thinking they are mean. Please let me know your thoughts not any other suggestions are welcome.

Paddington/ Paddy
Thatcher/Thatch
Kipling/kip
Frederick/Freddie
??????

Please help,

Use them all, it'll make a man of him.

Sarahplane · 12/01/2013 11:06

Freddie's ok. As for the others no, just no! Too many crazy pregnancy hormones, step away from the baby names book.

SugarMeFingers · 12/01/2013 11:15

How about Fletcher, i know a lovely little boy with this name.

LoopsInHoops · 12/01/2013 11:19

Major maybe? Churchill?

Seriously, this must be a wind-up. No-one is that cruel.

tetleymel · 12/01/2013 11:22

Thatcher?! You MUST be joking

Cleopatra is absolutely terrible.

I don't believe that the OP is a serious poster.

Heavywheezing · 12/01/2013 11:25

Thatcher- fanny scratcher

I was thinking that no children names are unusual and almost anything goes these days.

If you like these names then why not call your lo kip or paddy.

Interesting names choices.

birdofthenorth · 12/01/2013 12:36

How about Kingsley? Nicer and less silly than Kipling IMHO, but still has that surnamey edge.

Paddy is great, Paddington is still a very popular bear so unsure about that!

Please no to Thatcher. Thanks to Maggie that's pretty close to Ghengis or Adolf in my book!

Viviennemary · 12/01/2013 12:41

Well it depends what you are naming I suppose. Surely not a child.

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/01/2013 12:47

I quite like Thatcher.

EmpressOfThePuddle · 12/01/2013 13:33

As with Paddington and Kipling, it's not the word, it's the associations....

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/01/2013 13:36

I still quite like Thatcher.

I wonder if the name Cameron will start to be used less and less now, what with our current delightful PM? I always liked the name Blair but dear Tony has put me off for life.

Jakeyblueblue · 12/01/2013 13:59

Paddington bear.
Margaret thatcher.
Mr Kipling.
Sorry op Sad

alemci · 12/01/2013 14:07

agree Jakey.

love Freddie - we have a 2 day old cousin called this in our family.

Think of that Mr Kippling voice with the cricket lawn and a Summers day.

Now the theme tune of Paddington Bear is playing in my head.

thatcher - a bit country bumpkin up on a roof

Please don't inflict those names on your baby boy.

Bunbaker · 12/01/2013 19:23

"I quite like Thatcher."

Are you a Tory? I live in South Yorkshire. Some local cinemas wouldn't even show the film about Margaret Thatcher when it was doing the rounds. I don't think you have any idea how much some sectors of society hated her.

Geranium3 · 12/01/2013 19:28

all 3names sound absolutely ridiculous!!!

PurpleStorm · 12/01/2013 22:01

Frederick/Freddie is the only sane one on that list.

Paddington = Paddington Bear
Kipling = cakes. Or possibly Rudyard Kipling.
Thatcher = Margaret Thatcher, and plenty of people react very very badly to even the mention of her. I'd avoid that one like the plague.

Pasiphae · 12/01/2013 22:12

Surnames as names are hard to pull off without being odd. Not keen on your choices, I have to admit. Of your list I would go for Frederick.

Pasiphae · 12/01/2013 22:14

Suggestion: Jefferson, Guthrie?

pinkandyellowbutterfly · 12/01/2013 22:23

I associate Kipling with the brightly coloured luggage bag company with the little pink gorillas. Not a great association to have with your name, but then again neither are fondant filled cakes. I would air on the side of sanity caution. Caspian? Kenneth? Conrad?

On a positive note, Jemima is gorgeous :-)

Clary · 12/01/2013 23:23

Freddie is a really nice name. Grin

The others are not. I mean Thatcher??? Really??? Just told DH and his response is not printable Grin

I like others' suggestions - Rafferty, Horatio

Selks · 12/01/2013 23:32

Clearly a spoof thread.

EmpressOfThePuddle · 12/01/2013 23:33

I think Freddie needs to be Frederick.

I like Rafferty though.
