paranoid that nobody likes the names of my children

i had my second child 5 weeks ago and have given them a name i really love, but im beginning to get paranoid that people dont like it, nobody has been rude enough to say it to my face but ive had the line 'oh that's different/unusual' a bit (which it isnt) so im gunna put it to the test if i can and ask you to tell me what names you LOVE or HATE or even what you LIKE or DISLIKE from the lists below (the other names are friends/family)

dont know if i'd be more upset if people said they hated it or if it wasnt mentioned at all, lol!

here are the names:-

GIRLS:- sophie, kiera, ruby, elin, bethan, erin, seren, brooke, maisie, mollie, haylie, layla, jasmine.

BOYS:- joseph, flynn, jack, arthur, rhys, robbie, henry, ellis, toby, oliver, jacob, james, dylan, alfie, logan.

Both are fine isn't quite what you said initially I assume if she's Welsh herself she'd know the Welsh pronunciation. Here in London I've only met "dillon"s and would pronounce it like that unless the parents told me otherwise.

Dylan pronounced Dillon is fine. It's DS2 name and when we went on holiday to Wales they all pronounced it Dillon too.

I think all of the names are perfectly lovely. Please don't let yourself get paranoid - I had some reactions like you've described when we called our first daughter Ivy - but we weathered it and I'm so happy I never let anyone else's opinions affect my choice.

One of my daughters is called Greer and EVERYONE has an opinion on it. At the end of the day, I love her name, her Daddy was talked round to it ;) and it really suits her. My criteria was that I wanted my children to each have a name that nobody else in their schoolclass had, but which wasn't totally wacky. If people don't like their names, that's their trouble If they express to you that they don't like the name of your child, that's downright rude imho. If you can't say anything nice, say nothing at all.

That's who I like to mention, everyone usually asks if I named her after Germaine Greer since I'm a bit of a manhating feminist

All fine except Haylie (Surely its Hayley) and Robbie (chavvy).

I hope your kids aren't called Haylie and Robbie.

Mind you when people hear my kids names the comment is always 'ooohhh very middle class' which I am but still grates a little. I would always be gracious about someone's choice of name even if I didn't like it.

Oh and another comment we get is 'are you German' ha ha so what if I am!

Just don't sweat it I am trying to say as long as you like them ignore other people.

The only really crap name from your list is Maisie, imo

Only like Sophie out of girls although Bethan OK.
Boys like James, Oliver, Henry,Joseph, Jack and not the rest.

We chose Seren as a middle name in the end, it means Star in Welsh, after reading so many comments saying they've never heard of it. I wanted it as a first name but OH wanted Isabelle too much. Although the reason we chose Seren was because of the word Serendipity, which means a happy accident. Haha, kinda fitted! But if she asks, it means star.

I love Erin also.

The rest are lovely, some a little common but still pretty. But can't stand Ruby. Always think of some pornographic skank of a model or a dingy club.

Boys names are all lovely. Out of them Robbie is actually my least favourite, but it works for you and that's what matters. Couldn't have Jack/Alfie/Charlie because all our dogs are named those. I love Logan!! We love Zachary as well.
