any thoughts on it?

The person who is thinking about it when her son is born has a 16yr old daughter named Brooklyn.

I personally think it's too much (she doesn't mind me posting on here) any other suggestions you may have?

My friend is quite Unconventional.

Well if she's unconventional she won't give a rats ass that most people will think she's a pillock copying the likes of the Beckhams and their 'sleb' mates. It's dire as a name, sorry.

delilah88 · 10/01/2013 13:25

I think it's unimaginative. Why not urge her to go for a less expected place name, like Bingley, or Leamington?

seeker · 10/01/2013 13:27

I think she sounds incredibly conventional to me. Self described unconventional people usually are!

nannyof3 · 10/01/2013 13:28

I love London but for a girl

GuffSmuggler · 10/01/2013 13:30

Don't people who name their kids like this WANT everyone to gasp in horror?

doyouwantfrieswiththat · 10/01/2013 13:30

Leamington is a great name.

Pancakeflipper · 10/01/2013 13:33

Bognor ?

Or Grimsby?

user12785 · 10/01/2013 13:33

What about "Wyre Piddle" (Worcestershire), "Hole-in-the-Wall" (Herefordshire)? Just to show how unconventional she really is?!

exexpat · 10/01/2013 13:34

Is this on the Beckham principle of being called after where you were conceived? In which case London sounds a bit boring but I suppose unavoidable if the deed is already done. Suggest they go to Goa or maybe Pyongyang for the next one.

Pancakeflipper · 10/01/2013 13:36

So was Dudley Moore conceived in Dudley?

rhondajean · 10/01/2013 13:37

It's the name of a very very stupid girl on one of those incredibly tedious Disney channel programmes, the one with the odious twins in it.

On that basis alone, I wouldn't.

delilah88 · 10/01/2013 13:37

LOVE Grimsby! haha

VerlaineChasedRimbauds · 10/01/2013 13:37

I think one of the Wallops would be better: there is a choice
Nether, Middle or Over - that would really pack a punch Grin.

This reminds me of the new dictionary definitions round from "I'm sorry I haven't a clue"

"Brooklyn Bridge" : a card game for toddlers whose parents have given them ridiculous names.

Perhaps you could buy "The Meaning of Liff" for your unconventional friend because there are some wonderful definitions of place names in there.

Blu · 10/01/2013 13:37

As a place of conception 'London' is a bit non-specific.

Can she not call him Bermondsey, or Deptford, or Hornsey Rise, or whatever? PallMall? or even N159, dependng on which night bus route...

GuffSmuggler · 10/01/2013 14:36

Blu Grin or perhaps the nearest tube stop? Pimlico, Stockwell, Shepherd's Bush...?

StellaNova · 10/01/2013 16:21

Could end up being called Don or Donny and the people will think he is called Donald - not so unconventional.

I used to look at the tube map and imagine the people behind the names - Stamford Brook was quite dashing and Chancery Lane was a bit of a helpless maiden.

It was a long commute.

alarkaspree · 10/01/2013 16:26

Yes, it's too general and bland. London is not equivalent to Brooklyn, Brooklyn is a borough of New York City. So she should call him, say, Southwark. Or City of Westminster. I used to know a woman called Lambeth actually.

exexpat · 10/01/2013 16:37

How about Bromley? I can sort of imagine the hero of a Victorian novel being called Bromley. But not Croydon, for some reason.

Pancakeflipper · 10/01/2013 16:43

I am rather liking Lyme Regis

Just cos you can double-barrell it if feeling a bit posh.

Pancakeflipper · 10/01/2013 16:43

Ooh what about High Wycombe?

EbbNFlow · 10/01/2013 16:46

I quite like it. Grin

Hackney, Brixton, Kilburn?

Or if she is posh - Fulham?

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo · 10/01/2013 16:48

I do know of a little boy called London, so not particularly 'stand out' imho.

Not my cup of tea but I couldn't give a monkey's what other people call their kids so good luck to her.

Blu · 10/01/2013 16:50

Chelsea is already a popular name.

What about Barking? I recommend Barking.

BiteTheTopsOffIcedGems · 10/01/2013 16:51

What about Wookey Hole? First and middle same.

EuroShagmore · 10/01/2013 16:52

Scunthorpe?
