Dd1 is 6 days old and we have have decided on either Dylan or Morgan. I know the general consensus on mn is that unisex names are a no no but we like them. Mn will be Emily, so my question is, if you HAD to choose one which would you choose? Ds1 is Rowan and Ds2 is Sebastian (yes rhyming names too)

Please help we have been going back and forth for weeks now and even now that she is here can't decide.

Dylan

Dylan

Feckthehalls · 27/12/2012 23:27

Morgan

Piemother · 27/12/2012 23:27

Dylan for a girl is lovely. Morgan is common. As in commonly found - I know lots of Morgan's.

ArthurandGeorge · 27/12/2012 23:27

Dylan

Selks · 27/12/2012 23:28

Morgan

Dylan is dreadful for a girl, sorry.

MrsChestysGlitteryBaubles · 27/12/2012 23:29

I think I'm slightly more swayed by Dylan but just wanted to say I love unisex names and congrats in your new DD :)

OhMittens · 27/12/2012 23:43

Is Dylan really unisex generally enough though?? I know Morgan is, and for that reason I would choose Morgan if I were you. I can't help feeling that Dylan is (at this time at least) still too male a name.
I know you're not asking for any further ideas, but have you considered Robyn? Smile

Gugglebum · 28/12/2012 05:02

Morgan by a mile!

niceupthedance · 28/12/2012 05:25

Dylan

Damash12 · 28/12/2012 06:20

Morgan on the basis it is more unisex than Dylan. Are there absolutely no choices for an actual girls name?

notnagging · 28/12/2012 06:59

Op, it's down to you. Who cares what other people think. Give your child a name that means something to you not other people.

ItLooksLikeRainDear · 28/12/2012 07:01

Morgan

My cat is called Dylan

FaLaLaLaLauraPalmer · 28/12/2012 07:08

Dylan is lovely for a girl. Modern, fresh and it doesn't matter if it was originally a boys name.

Morgan sounds very 80's to me (Morgan Fairchild, perhaps?!)

Congrats on new DD.

KnockMeDown · 28/12/2012 07:15

I think def Morgan! Dylan sounds more masculine than Rowan, and Sebastian even though that is an actual boys name! If I met you and you said you had 3 DC named Rowan, Sebastian and Dylan, I would assume they were all boys. Or, as someone upthread said, how about an actual girls name? Embrace the fact that after 2 boys you now have a little girl?

JumpingJackSprat · 28/12/2012 07:46

dylan - i first heard it in a film for a girl and thought it was beautiful and to my ears is a feminine sounding name - much more so than morgan.

Dinosaurdrip · 28/12/2012 08:47

Thank you everyone, I know it is our decision I just wanted to put the feelers out and see how the names were received. I knew/know there will be people who hate our chosen name as with any name. Thanks again.

If I heard of a Dylan I would totally assume he was male and I'd be really shocked to find out it was a girl. Morgan I would probably still expect a make but I would not be shocked.

I think Rowan and Sebastian are lovely names and your two choices fir your daughter are, in my opinion, nowhere near as lovely.

Using a boy's name makes it sound a bit like you wanted three boys.

bitbot · 28/12/2012 09:48

I like both, but in case this helps you decide...our dd surname is Dylan. At weigh in clinic the health visitor got mistaken and called out her surname instead of her first name...she had a look of utter confusion as to why a Dylan was dressed in pink and checked her list and I had to explain it was her surname Wink is Morgan more commonly used for a girl? If incidents like this wouldn't bother you then go for Dylan...It's obviously ruled out if I ever have a ds otherwise it would be on my list as love the name! Congratulations Grin

sunnyday123 · 28/12/2012 09:59

I'm not sure Dylan is unisex? I've never heard of a girl called Dylan? Morgan is too common IMO sorry, and all I think of is that tacky clothes shop!

I have 2 girls and there are so many pretty girls names out there that I can't understand wanting to choose such a masculine name, esp with 2 boys already but understand its personal choice.

I think both are more popular and common than your two other names either way so don't really 'go'?

LittleWhiteWolf · 28/12/2012 10:05

Dylan.
It's funny because if you said you had two boys and a girl and gave those names I'd assume Rowan was the girl; I have only ever met girls with that name.

Shybairns · 28/12/2012 10:14

Morgan definitely

NeverQuiteSure · 28/12/2012 10:18

Both nice, inoffensive names. I would assume Dylan to be a boy and Morgan to be a girl (although would not be surprised to meet a boy named Morgan). Doesn't sound like this matters though.

I know you already have two names that you love and are not looking for any more ideas, but I shall throw one in anyway. I was lurking on the Mallory Towers thread last night and thinking how much I liked the name Darrell for a girl ignoring the fact that Mallory Towers' Darrell is perhaps not the best role model I have only met one Darrell in RL and he was male, but it is fairly well known as a name for either sex.

TheCatIsEatingIt · 29/12/2012 21:46

Morgan is nice. Dylan is a boy's name.

almapudden · 29/12/2012 21:53

Morgan.
