I'm always drawn to this name but worry its a bit 1980's. would Thomasina on the BC be better?

Never thought of it as an eighties name, at all. pretty.

MrsMcEnroe · 23/12/2012 19:08

I know 2 Tamsins and they are both in their 40s. It's a lovey name. Time for a revival!

MrsMcEnroe · 23/12/2012 19:08

Lovely not lovey, sorry

PurpleTinsel · 23/12/2012 19:09

I don't think of it as an eighties name. I think Tamsin is much nicer than Thomasina.

snowmummy · 23/12/2012 19:09

I love it too and would've used it but my dh doesn't like it.

BlipbipMerrynHigh · 23/12/2012 19:10

Haha, 70's more like - Tamsin Gregg, Tamsin Althwait (sp)

It is a great name and but nearly everyone miss hears it as Tasmin and I never have worked out why

HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 23/12/2012 19:11

I think it's a lovely pretty name. I don't know any of any age.

AlexanderS · 23/12/2012 19:11

I like Tamsin. I don't think it's as dated as Sharon, Tracy or Donna, but it is maybe a little dated (will check out how its popularity has changed over time for you once I get home - am at work Xmas Blush). I'd be more inclined to use Tamara.

coldcupoftea · 23/12/2012 19:11

I think it's lovely!

LynetteScavo · 23/12/2012 19:11

No, but then I know a child Tamsin.

hellymelly · 23/12/2012 19:12

I don't think it is dated, I think its really pretty and well known without being too popular which is ideal really.

Floggingmolly · 23/12/2012 19:14

My dd has a friend called Tamsin, they're nearly 12. It's a nice name.

LittleBallOfFur · 23/12/2012 19:17

I know a 6 year old tamsin and my yoga teacher is tamsyn - lovely name either way I think :)

BlipbipMerrynHigh · 23/12/2012 19:17

once we get the miss pronunciations out of the way most people say they like the name. This is a name I know quite a lot about Xmas Smile

RiaUnderTheMistletoe · 23/12/2012 19:43

The only Tamsin I know is early 20s. It's nice but I prefer Thomasina.

bigkidsdidit · 23/12/2012 20:27

I know a 5 year old Tamsln. It's lovely!

Ohmydarlin · 23/12/2012 22:12

Thanks for the responses. Looks like it isn't as dated as I thought.

I think it's lovely

PoppyWearer · 23/12/2012 22:19

I know a 5yo one and a late-30s one. Just bear in mind that some people will (as pp said) persist with Tasmin regardless, and others will shorten to Tam, whether you want this or not.

thegreylady · 23/12/2012 22:27

Gorgeous one of my favourites :-)

Pochemuchka · 23/12/2012 22:37

I think Tamsin is lovely.

Thomasina sounds like a character Justin Fletcher would invent for one of his cbeebies shows (she could possibly already exist!)

copyandpaste · 24/12/2012 03:20

Tamsin is alright, but easily a million times better that Thomasina, which is in my opinion kinda terrible. Pick what you want though!

XBenedict · 24/12/2012 03:29

Awful - but then I know an awful Tamsin! M

OkayHazel · 24/12/2012 04:38

Thomasina is gorgeous!

Instantly think of Thomasina Coverly, of Tom Stoppard's play Arcadia - my favourite.

Wonderful character straits to associate the name with!
