Could Eilidh have a little sister called Isla - or are they too similar?

Just that really.

DD3 due imminently and we can't decide on a name. DD1 & DD2 are called Eilidh & Niamh. We are in Scotland and would like to keep with Scottish/ Gaelic names.

Thanks in advance!

Defo too similar I think. Which is probably why you like it!

LikeAVirginMary · 15/12/2012 10:21

I think it would be lovely!

SleighbellsRingInYourLife · 15/12/2012 10:23

Too vowelly and elly

Maeve?

NotChristmasCarol · 15/12/2012 10:23

Too similar for me, I'm sorry to say as both lovely names

Skiffen · 15/12/2012 10:24

They are very similar - both lovely though.

What about Iona? Elsa? Aoibhe?

KittyMcAllister · 15/12/2012 10:24

What about Orla? Still in keeping with the theme but not as similar?

XmasBumpNo3 · 15/12/2012 10:28

Yeah we have Iona on the list too. Also Cora & Carys (although not Gaelic I know!)

I don't mind Orla but DH not too sure.

Aargh - why is this so difficult!

Ha ha!

Because you've already had to name 2 girls :)

It is the curse of those of us blessed with single-gender families.

vintageviolets · 15/12/2012 10:38

How do you pronounce your dd's names?

Eye-lidge & Niam?

Im rubbish at working them out.

Skiffen · 15/12/2012 10:44

Ay-Lee
Neeev

We have 2 dds too, always had no problems with boys' names!

Really like Aoibhe now I've written it for you!! Also Caoimhe and Saoirse.

almapudden · 15/12/2012 10:46

What about Aine?

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 15/12/2012 10:47

I think they go well, personally. But if you want to stick with the Scottish theme but a bit less similar how about

Ishbel
Morven
Mirren
Mairi
Rhona
Sorcha
Kirsty
Catriona

vintageviolets · 15/12/2012 10:49

Neeev? I thought it was pronounced ne-am.
God I'm out of touch & am due in April, I need to get with the programme!

wongadotmom · 15/12/2012 10:50

I think Aoife is beautiful

YouCanBe · 15/12/2012 10:51

I think they are too similar, sorry!

poachedeggs · 15/12/2012 10:51

Carys is gorgeous. DH vetoed it :(

Mairi or Mhairi?
Morag?
Shona?
Fiona?
Mairead?

wongadotmom · 15/12/2012 10:51

Maura
Myra
Maisie

Celticlassie · 15/12/2012 11:01

Mhairi is not a name - it's how you call someone named Mairi. So A'Mhairi. Just as a by the way. Smile

blondiedollface · 15/12/2012 11:04

I think Isla goes nicely and isn't too similar!!

onedev · 15/12/2012 11:10

I think they sound lovely together. Smile

SleighbellsRingInYourLife · 15/12/2012 12:01

Celtic - I thought giving people vocative case names was a Scottish peculiarity :o

Is Hamish not a real name either?

forgetmenots · 15/12/2012 17:19

I know an Eilidh and Isla, I think it's fine. I've got similar taste and I'm going for Orla, also liked Roisin, Ishbel and Maeve.

Sleighbells, it is, of course - in English. In Gaelic, it's just the way to call someone called Seumas. :) A' Sheumais (sounds like a Hamish!)

forgetmenots · 15/12/2012 17:20

Pressed too soon! Guessing you knew that one, though? I like the vocative names though runs away from Gaelic purists!

skandi1 · 15/12/2012 17:28

I think adding an Isla to those two would be lovely Grin

Biased though. My DD is Isla.

LolliLouLou · 15/12/2012 17:31

No, definitely too similar! Sorry!
