Could Eilidh have a little sister called Isla - or are they too similar?

Just that really.

DD3 due imminently and we can't decide on a name. DD1 & DD2 are called Eilidh & Niamh. We are in Scotland and would like to keep with Scottish/ Gaelic names.

Thanks in advance!

That's odd. My aunt is Mhairi (vahree) and my granddad was a born Gaelic speaker. I always assumed he wouldn't have called her a pretend name.

I wonder if it was an old equivalent of Jayden Grin

I think a lot of people used vocative names poachedeggs because it sounded and looked 'more Gaelic' but wasn't too difficult to pronounce. It's not that they are pretend names really. I like them fwiw!

Apologies for the appalling grammar there, I lose track when I'm on my phone!

Cara?

I love Eilidh as a name but already had an Abbie so too similar.

I really like Mhari, Mirren and Isla too. Personally I wouldn't have an Eilidh and Isla but I know someone with a Emma and Emily siblings 2 years apart :S

I know a combination of sisters with same names - E, I and N. In fact I know a few Eilidh and Isla combos. I don't think they are too smiliar at all.

Eilidh, Ellie and Hayley would be a different story! Xmas Wink

Way too similar.

Greensleeves · 15/12/2012 19:07

Carys is Celtic, it's Welsh! So it fits with your Irish ones nicely I think

Eilidh should not hav a sister called isla because when you call Eilidh isla mite come.

(by my dd age 6)

giraffesCantFlyLikeReindeer · 16/12/2012 11:16

does it depend on how you are pronouncing it? Because when I say it they sound nothing alike.

I am names one of those and the other is in my mind as a potential dd name! So to me they are different enough!

pixiestix · 16/12/2012 15:26
