Truly awful unless a character in Wicked the musical.

BunnyLebowski · 28/11/2012 20:23

Elfie is very cute but Elphaba is seriously horrible. A burden of a name.

Sounds like a villain in a Disney film rather than a girl's name.

SilverSky · 28/11/2012 20:23

My immediate thought was elephant. Sorry.

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 28/11/2012 20:24

Well, it is Wicked that inspired me.

Also like Aoife which is much safer!

You have got to be kidding. Surely? And when the other kids say "that's a weird name" DD will say "no it's not, my DM named me after the Wicked Witch of the West"

GrimmaTheNome · 28/11/2012 20:26

It sounds like a toddler trying to say 'Elephant' or something.

You're right to be scared. Grin

RillaBlythe · 28/11/2012 20:26

I had a great aunt Elfie, from her initials E.L.F.B

ZZZenAgain · 28/11/2012 20:27

listen to your dh, he's right on this one

gemma4d · 28/11/2012 20:40

seriously? Confused

crunchernumber · 28/11/2012 20:44

Elfie is nice.

Elpheba is not a real name imo. Wizard of Oz was written by L F Baum (L F B) which was why it was used in Wicked.

You CANNOT name your child after the Wicked Witch of the West, however misunderstood.

Unless you are making a secret, forward thinking gift to her future daughter-in-law Wink

cory · 28/11/2012 22:13

I'd go for it- always provided the baby is born a bright green. Though I would expect to see definite signs of it defying gravity first.

Lyftiduft · 28/11/2012 22:37

What about Elfreda instead? www.behindthename.com/name/elfreda

Llanbobl · 28/11/2012 22:54

Wendy wasn't a real name either and that caught on (seems to have died off a bit) so Elphaba could catch on Confused

What about Hepzibah instead?

Devora · 28/11/2012 22:56

I had a very lovely friend called Hephzibah. Only one I've ever met Smile

oopsiforgot · 28/11/2012 22:58

Ok I'm going to blame your hormones on this 1, I have a list of the potential names I had when expecting ds1, still bring it out when I need a giggle! Grin

OutragedFromLeeds · 28/11/2012 23:00

I thought about Elphaba as a name for a DD after watching Wicked. Then I realised that it would be bordering child abuse and crossed it off the list. I can see where you're coming from, but you can't actually use it.

I also considered Elmo and Grover at one point

crunchernumber · 28/11/2012 23:28

Actually, I think I quite fancied Elmo at one point Blush

SirBoobAlot · 28/11/2012 23:32

You will give your daughter a sensible name, and one day you will look back on this idea and laugh at yourself.

(I actually think its a nice name, but there is no way you can use it!)

Picturesinthefirelight · 28/11/2012 23:49

Love it. Don't think I'd be brave enough though. The grandparents would think we had gone.

How about Fiyero for a boy?

Anyway - she's not wicked she's good!

Alisvolatpropiis · 29/11/2012 00:19

I would go with Aoife personally.

saffronwblue · 29/11/2012 00:31

Elspeth?

PurpleTinsel · 29/11/2012 00:35

Noooooooo.

Seriously bad idea to name a baby after the Wicked Witch of the West. (Unless it's bright green, of course)

honeytea · 29/11/2012 04:33

I love it, it wa son our list if our baby was a girl (but he is a boy.) We have called him Elfie whilst he has been in my tummy and now I just feel like that is his name. We are going to call him Elvin which means elf friend, I think I will still call him Elfie though.
