I think Mabel is v cute and works old/young. Need a twin name that works. Is Mildred known as Mills/Red a big no or a maybe??? For my SIL. She is avoiding top 100 (almost impossible IMHO). Thanks.

They are both ugly granny names.

Why do names have to "match" anyway? They wont live thier entire lives together.

Way2Go · 07/10/2012 20:54

Mildred Confused. I don't like this name.

Mabel. This ok, not great.

Matching twin names are a bit naff IMO.

(sorry)

amck5700 · 07/10/2012 23:38

Martha?

Tryingtothinkofnewsnazzyname · 07/10/2012 23:42

Don't much like either. And it's not good to do a matchy-matchy name thing for twins IMO.

Tryingtothinkofnewsnazzyname · 07/10/2012 23:42

Now Milly and Martha, that I could endorse Smile

Tryingtothinkofnewsnazzyname · 07/10/2012 23:43

I know it's still kind of matchy=matchy but much nicer. On apractical level, twins with the same first initial will be a pain later in life when they have post coming and so on.

giraffesCantGoGuisingAsZebras · 07/10/2012 23:44

Mildred says witch to me

I do like Mabel. What about another old fasioned name? Elsie? Alice?

Mollydoggerson · 07/10/2012 23:45

Mabel and Sybil.

giraffesCantGoGuisingAsZebras · 07/10/2012 23:46

I like Mabel because of

HeffalumpsAndGoldenWoozles · 07/10/2012 23:53

I have a cat called Mabel & a tarantula called Mildred. Agree with other posters I don't think either make nice girl's names anymore.

Mildred would also remind me of the Jill Murphy 'Worst Witch' books.

Pixieonthemoor · 08/10/2012 18:36

Both are hideous. Why on earth would anyone inflict these on their newborn daughters is beyond me.

ruby22 · 09/10/2012 10:30

Love Mabel, I know a small one, sister called Florence but shortened to Flossie. personally I would go with Mabel and Maude, sound like spinsterly old aunts.

shoppingtrolley · 09/10/2012 10:51

I don't like either but have lots of friends who love Mabel.
I reckon don't call them matching names.
Mabel and Denise?
Mabel and Una?
Mabel and Caroline?

Gwennan · 09/10/2012 11:12

For me, Mabel is a bit granny chic. Mildred, on the other hand, is frumpy.

I'd avoid two names beginning with the same letter for twins too.

Pasiphae · 09/10/2012 13:56

I like both, and I like the nicknames for both too.
But Mildred is very marmite.
Mabel and Myriam? Margot? Myrtle (but that very Mildred), Mirza, Milla, Minerva, Marguerite, Maeve?

baskingseals · 09/10/2012 17:56

don't really like either.

if she is in love with Mabel, what about Marianne?

bluewisteria · 09/10/2012 20:29

... Love Mabel!!!

My daughter is called Macushla... wonderful song sung by John McCormack, with Irish connections though...

Just in the pot to consider???

Yika · 09/10/2012 20:48

Urge. Hate both but Mildred is just horrifically hideous. How about Marion? I find it do pretty (and young) in French. I also like Muriel.

Yika · 09/10/2012 20:49

I meant 'urgh' not 'urge'!!!

pinkandyellowbutterfly · 09/10/2012 22:02

Mildred is the name of the 'worst witch' character in jill murray's stories. Not a great connataion, combined with the old-lady-name-but-not-in-a-good-way thing. A young Mildred could be bullied copiously.

nappyaddict · 10/10/2012 12:05

TubbyDuffs · 10/10/2012 12:08

Bleurgh to granny chic. Both horrible names in my opinion! (just adding my twopenneth)

socksandoos · 10/10/2012 13:45

I too thought of "The Worst Witch".... but I prefer Mildred to Mabel (slightly less granny-ish to my mind).

How about names which are anagrams of each other rather than alliterative?
Celia / Alice...? Are there any more?

DeekeyDoo · 10/10/2012 20:46

I love both of them and I think they go really well together.
