Is it fun or do all the bad Nancys ruin it? Beth Orton's daughter is called Nancy apparently.

I love it- it was on my list until two weeks ago!! Yes my first thought was Oliver Twist, but there are lots of names you can make links too, I could get passed that quite easily, could you?

I really dislike this name and normally I really like those old fashioned, boarding school story names. But Nancy and Audrey are two definite exceptions.

butterfliesinmytummy · 04/08/2014 22:20

Nancy Mitford, sharp wit but married to hitlers closest ally in the uk...... Not an association I would be shouting for the rooftops.

I also really dislike the name......

Montegomongoose · 05/08/2014 00:24

butterflies Nancy Mitford was married to the relatively apolitical Peter Rodd.

Perhaps you're thinking of her sister Diana, who married Oswald Mosely?

Nancy didn't agree with Diana politically and gave evidence that helped put her sister in jail during WW2.

Not a mistake I'd be shouting from the rooftops Grin

Love it. Never met one I didn't like.

catwithflowers · 05/08/2014 06:27

Ulysses · 08/08/2014 10:30

Sorry, but I think it's a try-hard middle class name that's on the frumpy side.

Ludways · 08/08/2014 10:58

Love love love!

Dh veto'd it, miserable git!

juliascurr · 08/08/2014 11:08

Already mentioned, but this is what I think of when I hear the name Nancy:

Gingerjv · 08/08/2014 20:48

Tweediestwo · 08/08/2014 21:31

I love it! It makes me think of Oliver Twist. A Classic Charles dickens book. Great name :-) x

StrawberryMouse · 08/08/2014 21:36

I love it. If I had had a dd she would have been Nancy. Despite already having an Oliver. Grin

marshmallowpies · 08/08/2014 22:04

Nancy Mitford, brilliant writer, cool & sassy and the sort of person you'd love to have as an older sister, even though you know she'd have teased you mercilessly.

Call-me-Dave using it for his daughter has ruined it for me, though.

Other non-Nazi Mitfords who could have a revival:
Pamela
Deborah (Debo, the Duchess of Devonshire)
Hmm, perhaps not. I don't think I can convince myself to have a Pam or a Debo.

Jessica Mitford was also very cool, but Jessica is much too popular a name to work for me, we have a very common & dull surname...

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 08/08/2014 22:07

I like it but it does kind of feel like a name to live up to. It'd have suited my feisty DD I think, shame I didn't cotton on back then.

jonicomelately · 08/08/2014 22:13

Had my DS been a girl he/she would've have been Nancy, so yes, I love it!

zingally · 10/08/2014 17:27

I have an almost-two year old niece called Nancy.

When the name was first revealed, we were a little bit "...really...?" But now we love it, and it suits her down to the ground.

IMO the child needs a lot of personality to pull off an "old persons" name, like Nancy, but our Nancy has personality in spades.

londonkiwi · 12/08/2014 11:27

I don't like it at all sorry.
