Is it fun or do all the bad Nancys ruin it? Beth Orton's daughter is called Nancy apparently.

Like it, it was my girl name for DS. I think it is a strong female name and not at all frilly.

LouMacca · 25/09/2012 21:31

Nancy is a name that's really grown on me.

I wouldn't have considered it for my own DD but there are couple of Nancys at school and I think it's a lovely name now!!

TheOnlyPersonInTheRoom · 25/09/2012 21:38

Remember Nurse Nancy from Twinkle? I bet you don't I bet you're all too bloody young. You sicken me!!!

nancy75 · 25/09/2012 21:40

It is my real name, everyone I have ever met shortens it to nance

nellyjelly · 25/09/2012 21:42

Love it. Wanted it but we had a boy.

perfumedlife · 25/09/2012 21:44

I love it, very chic and simple and classy.

wizzler · 25/09/2012 22:22

I remember Nurse Nancy from Twinkle.... ... I also think of " Paint along with Nancy!"

SilkStalkings · 26/09/2012 10:50

Wow, just been jolted through a time tunnel at the mention of Twinkle!

Natnat29 · 26/09/2012 10:52

Love it think it's such a fab name :)

wildpoppy · 26/09/2012 11:01

I think of it as a nickname

BeatTheClock · 27/09/2012 11:12

Blimey wizzler we must hail from the same era! I remember bothSmile

badtime · 27/09/2012 12:08

Call-me-dave's daughter (the one he left in the pub) is called Nancy, isn't she?
That would put me right off it.

delilah88 · 27/09/2012 12:10

Yes - his other daughter is Florence too (v popular on Mumsnet, although I never hear of babies being called Florence). Tory names!

My favourite name, only didnt have it for DD (15) because DH hates it with passion.

MadBusLady · 28/09/2012 07:25

His son is called Arthur, another MN favourite. Grin

Wouldn't put me off them though, they are universal names (like David - I don't think of Cameron every time I meet a David).

Brugmansia · 28/09/2012 19:45

I love it. Also my grandmother was called Nancy. We'll use it for a middle name if it's a girl though as DP's less keen.

AnnieLobeseder · 28/09/2012 19:51

My wonderful gran was Nancy, and DD's middle name is Nancy after her. So I love it, personally.

nkf · 28/09/2012 19:52

I like it. I like it lots actually.

AmberLeaf · 28/09/2012 20:56

I think it would be nice on a child of 'now' IYSWIM?

I remember it on older women when I was very young [im late 30s] but I think we are far along enough now for it to work.

Beattheclock and Wizzler

I remember Twinkle! my Granny used to send me a copy weekly in a rolled up parcel with a £1 note inside Smile

jellybeans · 28/09/2012 23:02

Don't like it, old fashioned, abit ' posh' and the whole 'nancy boy' thing would worry me.

nancy75 · 28/09/2012 23:04

Lol at a bit posh! I sound like Peggy Mitchell

Queenofsiburbia · 28/09/2012 23:09

I like it, it reminds me of Nancy Blackett from swallows & amazons: a fantastic role model for girls!
Although also makes me think of bill Sykes' abused other half in Oliver twist. Not such a great role model! She was the heroine though (and he got his comeuppance!).

I don't think of it as posh or common or anything, just British I guess.
