Do you want another American baby named Madison? DOOOO you?

Well then, come help me. :o (Only joking btw, I don't like the name Madison a'tall)

But! I am having a baby! And it's very early days and we're not really telling anyone, and DH is saying we must be cautious, but I don't really do cautious, you see.

Plus, it will take forever for us to hammer out a name, so it's best to start early. Here are all the names we've ever liked, I think. Feel free to throw in suggestions! Oh, and we have one DS who is Samuel Robert.

BOYS:

Charles, called Charlie probably
Nathaniel/Nathan (would most likely end up getting Nate)
William
Alexander (DH loves, I think is ok. I do like Alec; I know sooo many little Alex's)
Jack (not nearly as popular here. My favorite but harsh with our last name)
Rhys

For boy's middles we like Frederick (my dear late Grandfather), James (FIL), Dawson (lots of Dawsons in my family tree, but not for a few generations)...I also kind of like the idea of a Frederick Alexander called Rex for short. (Red + Alex = Rex in my book :o)

GIRLS:

Eleanora (DH's grandmother. Lovely, but so many El names around!)
Caroline
Frances
Louisa
Elizabeth
I also love Annie Rose, but short for something like Susannah Rosamund. I actually love that combination (MIL is Suzanne) but SR are also DS's initials.

For girls' middles I like Rose, which I know is very popular, but my grandfather grew them and I love roses as they make me think of him. I also like Josephine, as a nod to my mother who is Jody.

Thanks for reading my mega-post, throw your thoughts at me! :)

Congratulations by the way!!! I seem to recall you hypothesising names on here a bit, exiting for it not to be theoretical anymore!!! Grin

HairExtensions · 22/09/2012 01:39

I have a Madison, okay its a middle name but still ...

You've got a good list there already, have you been putting some thought into this for a while? Grin

I have no suggestions right now, all that keep popping into my head are American style names - Cindy, Candy, Brooke, Jamie-Leigh etc

monsterchild · 22/09/2012 01:45

Madison is a surname. Ooh, why have surnames become first names for girls? it just seems a bit demeaning to me for some reason, like they don't even count enough for an individual name. (this goes for boys with surnames as well, but there are fewer of them)

Josephine Rose sounds pretty American to me.

How about Cecelia Rose?

MrsRhettButler · 22/09/2012 01:47

Just popping on to say Congrats! Grin

I love Nathaniel btw :)

HairExtensions · 22/09/2012 01:47

I think you should pick a Scottish name Grin

Catriona, Lorna, Shona, Morven, Fiona

HairExtensions · 22/09/2012 01:49

You may be getting the (correct) impression that I can't do boys names. Sorry 'bout that!

gomummygone · 22/09/2012 02:33

Congrats Auntie CheerfulYank! :) SIL has chosen lovely names btw. Think your friend should change her Amelia though as it is still in my head for you!

Victoria? Friend just had a Victoria (Torrie) and she so suits it.

weegiemum · 22/09/2012 03:03

I like Chales - Charlie (as long as it is Charles- I'm Vehemently Against nicknames as Real Names!!!). Also like Nathan

Love Susannah (but that's pretty much cos I used to dream it was my name when I was a kind of common 1970 Susan!!!). Rosamund is lovely (dh has a cousin Rosamond known as Rozzie). Also like Caroline, it's underused these days (we have a Katherine but it was a toss up!!).

Have fun! There's no dud in your choices, which for me is probably a MN first!!

CheerfulYank · 22/09/2012 03:26

Thanks everyone!

GoMummy this friend has another friend who says she has "claimed" Amelia, and the first friend is quite miffed, so don't think I should ask her to switch. :o

BikeRunSki I've been naming my children since I was about ten. Blush

I am loving Susannah but feel a bit Hmm about children with the same initial and I already have a Sam. LOVE Annie for short, but only if it were something like Annie Rose as I have a cousin called Anne or Annie. I also think Zuzu is a cute nn for Susannah but it's definitely more of a pet name.

Weegie I also only like full names, never fear!

Oh, the full name on my new niece is in: Ella Robin. I get to go meet her tomorrow...squeeeeee!

I really love Charles Frederick.
Charlie is a lovely nickname and goes really well with Sam I always think -- a lovely combination for brothers.

Or would you consider Joseph for a boy? Joseph James...

For a girl's name would you consider Róisín (Rose in Irish -- actually an affectionate diminutive of Rose) pronounced ROE-sheen. I think it would go well with your last name which I have sort of figured out (it is an Irish name too though an unlikely one).

Róisín Frances?
Róisín Elizabeth or Caroline?
Róisín Eleanora or Louisa?

Just tossing that in as I couldn't choose from your girls' list -- all the names you have in mind are beautiful imo and very hard to choose from.

And Congratulations!!!

CheerfulYank · 22/09/2012 03:54

Thank you math!

I actually love Roisin; I've always thought it was beautiful, but living in Midwest America I think she'd constantly be getting "Roy-zin?" and Hmm faces. Perhaps I should relocate to Ireland... :) I also love Saoirse, which has that same shhh sound. So pretty!

I also kind of like Rosabelle as a middle...an unexpected "Rose" name and pretty IMO. DH thinks I made it up. Hmm I don't think I did...

I do love Charlie. I think Charlie Surname is such a sunny little name. Then my boys can be "SAMUEL AND CHARLES" when they need to know I totally mean business!

Oh and I also have a cousin named Joseph. My aunt has six and they are Joseph, Claire, Benjamin, Emily, Katherine (Kate), and Jane, all of which I love and are now unusable. The NERVE of the woman. :o

FairPhyllis · 22/09/2012 04:20

Congratulations!

I think Charles is nice. Not much used at the moment. Charles Frederick - that sounds good. I like Nathan/iel too, but hate Nate as a nickname.

For girls, I like Caroline, Frances, Louisa and Susannah. Maybe Caroline Frances?
Or if you want a single syllable middle name you could use Grace, June, Jane, May - or Paige if you want to go all American Grin

I can report from NYS that the most recent babies I know of have been named Lincoln and Amos.

FadingAwayToAHippo · 22/09/2012 06:51

For boys I like Dawson best as a first name.

Love the girls names, we have an Ainslie Frances and Elizabeth Ellen so similar tastes.

We also liked Roslyn, Roisin, Katie (Caitlin), Alexandra (lexie), Julia

Our boys choices, unused so far, Lauchlan, James, Cillian, Andrew

mathanxiety · 22/09/2012 17:21

Seems the good taste runs in the family.

gomummygone · 22/09/2012 18:28

I have a cousin Annie May, she doesn't like her name but her surname is v. similar to yours and I always thought it sounded really nice.

DH, who wanted to know why I was sitting here repeating names out loud, has requested that I add his vote for Benjamin James.

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 22/09/2012 22:25

Thanks cheerful! Dp isn't sold on alice though.

I'm going to find out the sex next week to
at least narrow it down.

Tiredmumno1 · 23/09/2012 01:58

Benjamin James is nice Smile and I like Charles Frederick, I think Caitlin Rose sounds quite pretty

Tiredmumno1 · 23/09/2012 02:01

and Emily May Wink

Jacksmania · 23/09/2012 02:10

Oh, I should have known this was you! :o

Massive, huge CONGRATULATIONS and the most enormous ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUG)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))).

Now sit down and rest or something :)

I think if you went with the full name, Jackson is quite nice snicker :o

For a girl, I seem to have fallen in love with the name Calla recently. It's a lovely flower. Calla Elizabeth would go nicely with your surname.

For a boy, how about Charlie (Charles) Alexander?

ORANGEgiraffesCantWearGOLD · 23/09/2012 02:26

Saoirse - is that like seersha?

MamaMimi · 23/09/2012 02:43

You could still do Eleanor/a - and shorten it to Nell

or Elizabeth with so many shortened versions available.
eg Beth/Libby/Lizzie/Betty/Betsy.....

cynner · 23/09/2012 02:54

Hello, Cheerful, just popping in to see how you are feeling? Still have not come up with brilliant names, except Rowan and Morgan..
