joanofarchitrave · 16/09/2012 21:56

Maud, Edith and Emily are already riding high aren't they?

I would imagine it will be a bit longer before Doreen, Noreen and Maureen make a big comeback. I do like Maura though, Dora is big and Nora could be on the way.

LeChatRouge · 16/09/2012 21:59

I know an Edith, a Gladys, a Betty and a Betsy all under 3.
An Elsie who is 7 and a Thora who is 12.

I like Dora and Mabel.

marriednotdead · 16/09/2012 21:59

I've already met a Gertrude Hmm

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 16/09/2012 22:01

I think some granny chic names are really nice and classic.

But other names I hear I just imagine an old bag in Last of The Summer Wine. With American tan tights, tight rollers, hair hanky, ditsy print tea dress and wrinkles

BigHairyFlowers · 16/09/2012 22:07

Mildred

Millicent?

Margaret

I know a Peggy. A 4 year old....

Startailoforangeandgold · 16/09/2012 22:53

Not Gladys, my dear Great aunty G would turn in her grave (except she was cremated).

She hated her name, always signed cards Auntie G.
My aunt (her niece) has it as a middle name and she hates it too!

Devora · 16/09/2012 22:55

I know an Agatha, a Martha and a Vera. And a Kay!

All nice names, I think.

Startailoforangeandgold · 16/09/2012 22:55

Auntie or Aunty oh bugger my dyslexic brain, I think the first is correct, but autocorrect doesn't careConfused

fanjodisfunction · 17/09/2012 08:22

Names that I don't think are coming back:
Agatha, Avis, Bertha, Beryl, Barbara, Brenda, Doris, Dorcas, Deirdre, Edna, Enid, Ethel, Edwina Freda, Gertrude, Hilda, Hilary, Irene, Ilsa, Jean, Joan, Joyce, Myrtle, Mildred, Patricia, Prudence, Pauline, Queenie, Sheila, Shirley, Theresa, Ursula, Vera, Wilhemina, Winifred, Winnie, Yseult

paperclips · 17/09/2012 15:36

I like Joan. To me it sounds graceful and sophisticated. But I think it needs a few more years before it's ready to come back. I meet lots of women called Joan aged 65-75. I think it seems to take longer than that for names to come back round again.

Paradisefound · 17/09/2012 17:18

I love old lady names!

Trying to persuade dh that Joan or Agnes are lovely names. He's not having any of it though.
