I dont know if it's pregnancy hormones but I'm dying to use one of these names and need some-one to tell me, they aren't sensible enough!

I really like emmie!

AmethystMoon · 04/09/2012 18:36

I called my daughter India (11 weeks old today Grin) and she is generally known as Indy/indie so yes I would Smile

Rubirosa · 04/09/2012 18:39

I'd give a long name and use those as a nickname. Giving them as the whole name seems a bit limiting for the child in the future iyswim. Emmie might be happy to be Emmie when she is 4, but when she is 24 and in an important job interview she might want to introduce herself as Emma/Emilia/Emmeline etc.

LeChatRouge · 04/09/2012 18:42

I know children called all of those names. On their birth certificates they are India, but she is called Indy; also know a boy name Indiana, nn Indy
Emmy, I love this but she does have to often explain she isn't Emma or Emily
Ellie, I know lots of these, it seems to have been used a while and is the most recognised as a name in its own right.

Maybe imagine the person as a baby, a toddler, an 8 year old, first day at secondary school, at uni, at work as a Indy/Emmy/Ellie.

telsa · 04/09/2012 18:45

I know an Indi, short for India, which I prefer, as it is not like the short name for the newspaper, The Independent!

umiaisha · 04/09/2012 21:06

My son is called Indy, full name not nickname.

Love Emmie too

SilkStalkings · 04/09/2012 22:20

Not for a girl because their Sunday Best versions are so pretty, seems a waste.

4goingon14 · 04/09/2012 22:23

My DD is one of these names, so obviously I think that there is nothing wrong with them. I love my DD's name, it suits her perfectly.

HiHowAreYou · 04/09/2012 22:24

I like Emmie. Cute.

Baffledandbewildered · 04/09/2012 23:29

I have a girl indigo indie for short lovely name:)

Badgerina · 04/09/2012 23:31

I love Indy and Emmie as nicknames for their longer versions: India, Indiana, Emma, Emily and so on. I really dislike Ellie though. It sounds so boring to me.

MrsTerrysChocolateOrange · 04/09/2012 23:54

I have an Emmeline who has become Emmy. I think it gives her options.

RatHammock · 05/09/2012 03:45

I have an Indy although she is India on her birth certificate. She also has two more traditional middle names in case she wants to use them when she's older. IMO, Indy suits her down to the ground as she's a real rough and tumble tomboy and our other proposed name (Juliet) wouldn't suit her at all!

It was also our choice as 'Gone with the Wind' is my favourite novel. Ten years ago I'd have called her Scarlett but it's just too popular now and dare I say a little downmarket these days.

I have had a few negative comments and bear in mind that while India is not in the top 100, there are definite pockets where it's very popular.! We've just enrolled our daughter at a prep school in Bucks and out of 70 girls, there are already two Indias!

Ellie is nice but there are loads of girls with this name ATM. Same with Emmie, every toddler group I go to seems to have at least three Emmies.

jaffacakehips · 05/09/2012 08:23

Not a first names no don't have the balls I adore Indy as a nn, ace. I'd have India on BC. DH has said no, Sad

The others are just a bit cute for my taste. Emmy is very sweet through.

TudorJess · 05/09/2012 09:34

I'd only use any of them as nicknames.

Indie - Indira, Indigo, Belinda
Emmie - Emmeline, Emilia, Emma
Ellie - Eloise, Elodie, Elspeth

Margerykemp · 05/09/2012 10:09

Ellie works as a full name but not the others.

mrstowers · 05/09/2012 13:21

India is a lovely name and Indie is lovely as a nn and the same goes for Emmeline and Emmie. However, there are soooo many Ellie's it just makes me think 'Oh god, not another one!'.

indyindie · 05/10/2014 07:44

I have a Emmy Indy love your taste Wink wish we had went for indy as first name its lovely. No name regret here people say the love her name and if they don't doesn't bother me we don't all like the same things in life .

Ham69 · 05/10/2014 09:32

Emmie's lovely (I know a 10 year old and she's amazing). Of course it's great for an adult too. This one get's called Em a lot which is pretty and definitely works for an older person. They'll be so many cutsy names among her peers when she's older that it'll be the norm.

No, I wouldn't use any of them as given names.

Mammanat222 · 05/10/2014 15:12

I like them all.

I love the name Indiana for a girl [not allowed to use it] but she would have been a baby Indie.

Ellie is nice as a name in itself

Know someone who is an Emmie - That's her full name, not a nn.

Nocturne123 · 05/10/2014 15:23

I love indie , prefer it spelt with ie though . I was too much of a chicken to use it though . It would be very 'out there' where I live , but think it's so cool

JustDrive · 05/10/2014 17:50

I know an Emmie - full name Emmerence and an Ellie - full name Ellithia
Love both of those names and nn's!

ConcreteElephant · 05/10/2014 17:56

I have a 4 yr old Emmy/Em but these are nicknames not her actual name. Personally I prefer it this way - 'regular' name with nicknames for variety/ to suit.

There are lovely 'regular' names for all the names you like.
