Indy, Emmie, Ellie? Would you ever use them as a first name?

I dont know if it's pregnancy hormones but I'm dying to use one of these names and need some-one to tell me, they aren't sensible enough!

I have a four year old Emmy too! It wasn't something we had thought about when we named her but she has just been shortened to Emmy naturally.
I also loved Imogen (Immy) for dc3 but decided I couldn't have them together.

DanyStormborn · 05/10/2014 18:16

I wouldn't use any of them but would consider Emmeline or Emilia and call her Emmy or Eleanor and call her Ellie. Unfortunately none of those go with our last name.

RabbitSaysWoof · 05/10/2014 20:16

Indie and Emmie are both fab.
I don't understant the cv name obsession and giving a choice to use different names, My name is Claire a bit boring but I don't feel cheated that there's no way of changing it.

I would never use Indy, but India is okay.

Emi is a Japanese name and I have associations with Japan, so I accept it as a full name. Although Emmie spelling looks like a nn - sometimes I use it for my niece Emma.

Ellie I think is now a name in it's own right. I met one recently who was actually Eleanor, but I had just assumed it was just Ellie until then.

Our 2 week old is Emmie (though we went for Emilie-Mae as her formal name in case Emmie seems to 'childish' when she's an adult) x

Eastpoint · 06/10/2014 05:21

No I wouldn't use the short form as the birth certificate name. I'd use India, Emma/Emmaline/Emily/Emilie, Elizabeth/Eleanor to give my daughter flexibility as an adult.

I know of a little boy Indy which is quite a cool name.
Like Emmie (think J-lo's dd is called this?)
Ellie is ok but just so popular

LBNM19 · 06/10/2014 08:30

Love Ellie xx

I wouldn't use the short form as the official name. Why bother, when using the full name gives another option throughout life, but still allows you to use the shortened version all the time if you want?

Of the three I think I like Indi best, with Indigo as the full name.

RabbitSaysWoof · 07/10/2014 07:34

If I gave my child a 'full name' to be able to use the name I really like I would feel I wanted to correct people using the full version.
When the teacher said "hello Emily" I would be bursting to say "It's Emmie!!" but obviously I would look silly to correct someone calling my dc a name I actually gave them.

angeltattoo · 07/10/2014 08:34

I love Emmeline and Emmy, I would have loved this for my DD if I wasn't called Emma

angeltattoo · 07/10/2014 08:36

I love Imogem/immy too but didn't use that either...hmmmm!

mommathatwearspink · 07/10/2014 08:40

We loved Emmie but I felt DD needed a more grown up name for when she was older. DD is called Emilia (nn Emmy or Em)

fishfingerSarnies · 07/10/2014 08:46

I love Emmy, I have a friend called Emmy she's always liked it don't like it see Emmie though but proably just because of what I'm used to. Don't mind indy but Ellie is a bit boring compared to the other two.

Corneliusmurphy · 07/10/2014 08:53

Dd's nn is Ellie but it's short for Eliana. when it came to picking baby names we wanted ones which were still nice shortened (because I knew that's exactly what I would do) and also decent CV names.

My cousin on the other hand named her kids what she would call them (ollie instead of Oliver for example)
