Or anything similar. I really love Dido, though is it really too close to the word Dildo?

Neither.

Both naff.

thekidsarealright · 01/09/2012 19:07

Please don't call your child Dido. Please.

GravyHadALumpyMashBaby · 01/09/2012 19:07

I wouldn't use Dido for the reason you stated immature
Hero I think is pretty

iklboo · 01/09/2012 19:08

Neither, but it's not my baby!

How about
Milo
Hugo
Theo
Cleo
Thea

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 01/09/2012 19:11

Not keen on either, but if I had to choose one of the two it would be Hero as he would be called Dildo by his friends (and enemies) for all of his life.

GobblersKnob · 01/09/2012 19:14

I like Spam, thats a good solid name, Spam or maybe Jar.

kawaii · 01/09/2012 19:15

She really suits Dido, I know I can't really do it but I want to Sad

Is this for a girl? Both are girls names (Dido and Aeneas, and Much Ado About Nothing).

How about Isolde (keeping in the opera theme), or Hera (it's suggested that's where Hero came from).

AKissIsNotAContract · 01/09/2012 19:16

Hera is lovely.

LadyMargolotta · 01/09/2012 19:18

Not sure about Dido or Hero. Hero is prettier but requires a very confident child to pull off.

What about Pheadra or Minerva.

kawaii · 01/09/2012 19:18

Yes it's for a girl. I did prefer Hera to Hero but i've been told the correct pronunciation of Hera is Hair-a not Here-a so I'm not keen anymore.

Both horribly pretentious and Dido will always be too close to Dildo.

GobblersKnob · 01/09/2012 19:19

Even Dido isn't actually called Dido, she is callled Florian Cloud

Don't do it op, settle down with the 1001 baby names and hunt again Smile

TheTermagantToaster · 01/09/2012 19:20

Any Japanese connection OP?

Mintyy · 01/09/2012 19:20

Dido is lovely. Not keen on Hero for a girl. Actually not that keen on Hero full stop.

Sossiges · 01/09/2012 19:21

Hero

kawaii · 01/09/2012 19:23

That's a good point about having to be v. confident to carry off Hero LadyMargolotta and I'm quite shy so I should knock Hero off the list.

kawaii · 01/09/2012 19:24

No sadly no Japanese connection. DD is half Macedonian.

Minty82 · 01/09/2012 19:25

I quite like Dido, but prefer it as a nickname for Dinah/Diana. Not a fan of Hero; just gets confusing as it's a girls name in terms of literary precedence, but a male term...

kawaii · 01/09/2012 19:29

I do like Diana! Maybe that could work Minty82. I had initially knocked Diana off the list for being a bit too middle aged.

The couple of Hiros I've known have been male and Japanese.

So Hero to me sounds like a bloke's name. Or that you're copying Myleene Klass as she recently had a daughter called Hero,

Dildo is a straight no.

janey68 · 01/09/2012 19:36

The myleene connection is enough to put anyone off

squoosh · 01/09/2012 19:37

I'm not sure whuch would be worse, someone mistaking me for Dildo or someone thinking I was named after the most boring singer of all time.

Diana is lovely and quite unusual these days. I always think it's quite a 1940's glamorous gal type name.

user12785 · 01/09/2012 19:38

It's Phaedra. A then E. (btw!)

Badvoc · 01/09/2012 19:41

Medea?
Antigone?
