Or anything similar. I really love Dido, though is it really too close to the word Dildo?

How about Helena? Less dull than Helen but still classical and really pretty

squoosh · 01/09/2012 19:43

Phaedra is lovely too.

StokeEduville · 01/09/2012 19:46

Aida
Leonora
Adeline
Rosina

All from operas

Anthea and Cassandra are bynames for Hera, whilst her mother was Rhea. Elissa is a byname for Dido and Anna her sister.

StormGlass · 01/09/2012 19:53

Dido is too close to Dildo. I thought the thread title was "Dildo or Hero" at first glance.

And Hero could be a hard name to pull off, particularly if your child turns out to be shy or overly cautious.

Badgerina · 01/09/2012 20:09

I like Hero or Hera for a girl Grin not Dido though.

Yika · 01/09/2012 21:09

I like Dido and it doesn't sound anything like Dildo.

NarkedRaspberry · 01/09/2012 22:23

Iris?

I like Dido, for me it brings memories of Dido Twite, the heroine from Joan Aiken's series of children's books (she was great!). It doesn't make me think of dildos, and I think with the singer being relatively famous that it is amn immediately recognisable name.

On the other hand I think that Hero is awful. Sorry.

Diana is probably usable again now.

baskingseals · 01/09/2012 22:28

i like Hero.

what about Athene? or Nike?

TheTermagantToaster · 01/09/2012 22:29

Just to clarify, I wasn't making the connection because of the name Hero, but because of OP's 'cute' Wink nn.

NarkedRaspberry · 01/09/2012 22:30

Daphne?

marshmallowpies · 01/09/2012 22:31

Dido is such a cool name, and a great mythological tragic heroine, but the association with such a tragically uncool singer has killed it stone dead I'm afraid.

Hero is lovely, but it reminds me of that dreadful Daily Mail columnist woman whose children are called Hero and Tybalt and is always trying to push them onto reality TV in a 'don't put your daughter on the stage, Mrs Worthington' style. (google Hero, Tybalt and Daily Mail and you'll find her...worse than Samantha Brick, believe me).

charlottehere · 01/09/2012 22:36

Dido=dildo, if not yes its nice. Hero, maybe if myleene hadn't used it.

Clockless · 01/09/2012 22:41

Nootka! Yes I thought of dido twite too. Like the name. Ignore all the dildo crap.

brandysoakedbitch · 01/09/2012 22:43

Anything anywhere near Myleene Bloody Smug should be considered sullied...

MrsFaffnBobbocks · 01/09/2012 22:57

Please don't. Both you and your dd will regret both names. There are lots of good alternatives suggested on this thread though.....

MoonHare · 03/09/2012 16:44

Don't ditch the names if you love them. We know a Hero and she's a lovely little girl, not confident but still carries her name. None of the children who know her have batted an eyelid over her name and all the grown ups got used to it very quickly.

thegreylady · 03/09/2012 18:10

Dido is in a very rude song which is too rude to quote here though the classical association is lovely of course.

jaffacakehips · 03/09/2012 18:51

I knew a little girl called Hero (9) she's fab and super cute.

If you like it, then go for it.
