Irish girls names

My sister is 25 weeks and we've been up chatting about girls names. Her DH is Irish and dsis is half Irish so they'd like to give their DC an Irish name. They already have a DS (Ciaran) so would like it to go with that. So far we have:

Orla
Sinead
Clodagh

What do you think and any other suggestions?

I love Clodagh!
What about Aoife?

Maeve
Niamh
Siobhan
Caitriona
Feena

My faces would be Clodagh or Maeve.

We're Irish. Dd goes to school with:

Caoilfhinn pronounced cay-linn

Rionach pronounced re-nah

And Shona

Love them.

WorriedAboutFretting · 29/08/2012 13:01

I have an irish friend, her daughters are Aoife, Ciara and Aine (I'm sure there are some accents in there, but wouldn't know where"

squoosh · 29/08/2012 14:58

Clodagh is the best out the three suggested.

Sinéad and Orla are too boring.

Arabellasmella · 29/08/2012 16:35

I really like Orla. I also love Maeve. Being not Irish I sometimes don't know how some of them are said. I don't really know how you'd say Clodagh? Is it Clod-a?

squoosh · 29/08/2012 16:40

Clo-da

Clo rhymes with 'No'.

Cynthia32 · 29/08/2012 18:49

Some lovely suggestions here!! I'm going to read out some lists here to my sister later. Personally l love Sorcha and Saoirse out of all these! Don't think Dsis would want a Ciara as she has a Ciaran! Smile

ena or ailbha (al-va?)

KenDoddsDadsDog · 29/08/2012 22:33

I would have loved a Saoirse but DH thought it was a bit too up the RA. I have a non boring Orlaith instead.

chipmonkey · 29/08/2012 22:59

My niece is Saoirse, KenDodds. Most of my dsis's friends thought it was lovely and hippy-ish. The two blokes I worked for who were from the North of Ireland thought my dsis must be a Republican!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 29/08/2012 23:00

I really love it!

Pandygirl · 29/08/2012 23:11

Niamh is gorgeous, as is Aine.
