DP's suggestion for planned first child (as yet unconceived).
It is his grandmother's name, objectively I like it but am concerned about the connotations - other members of the family have already expressed reservations.

What do you think?

I thought this was a thread about Hindley! I wouldn't even use it for a middle name.

I'm afraid they are my sentiments exactly... It is a shame, but we couldn't use it without everyone having Hindley in their minds.
His grandmother has always gone by her middle name, Lillian, so I think I'll push for that as a potential middle name for a future DD instead.

Maybe change to moira. Too much association with Hindley for me.

I love love love Madeline but shan't be using that either.

Yeah, Hindley. Use as a middle name though and remember she died 10 years ago so none of your (as yet unconceived) daughter's friends will really know about her.

Lillian is much nicer and has no bad connotations - definitely push for that especially if that is what she went by!

I can understand the sentiment but am surprised at the thoughtlessness of using the name as a Christian one!

It used to be a popular name way back when...but I've never met anyone under 45 with the name and with damn good reason.

Hindley comes to mind immediately. It's never been a particuarly common name so that's the only association and certainly the first that comes to mind for the majority of the population.

Lillian is lovely,and a much better idea.

Lillian is lovely and reminiscent of Lillian Board our lovely silver medallist from 1968 Olympics who died so early at the age of 22.

Ooooo no. As soon as you say Myra I think of hindley.

It's probably as it a more unusual name as Ian hasn't quite got the same connotation?

Maura perhaps...certainly not Myra. It will take many years for that name to be forgotten,especially in the Manchester area.

Moira is nice. I have a friend called Moira who is lovely so I am biased.
