Myra?

DP's suggestion for planned first child (as yet unconceived).
It is his grandmother's name, objectively I like it but am concerned about the connotations - other members of the family have already expressed reservations.

What do you think?

Hindley...

that's what I think when I hear Myra.

Ketuk · 05/08/2012 00:40

Sorry, Hindley

Pumpster · 05/08/2012 00:43

On part with Adolf really...

Definitely Hindley, sorry.

TheNorthWitch · 05/08/2012 00:49

I thought this was a thread about Hindley! I wouldn't even use it for a middle name.

norrell · 05/08/2012 00:51

I'm afraid they are my sentiments exactly... It is a shame, but we couldn't use it without everyone having Hindley in their minds.
His grandmother has always gone by her middle name, Lillian, so I think I'll push for that as a potential middle name for a future DD instead.

No chance x sorry. Bit like Adolf.

PuggyMum · 05/08/2012 00:51

Maybe change to moira. Too much association with Hindley for me.

I love love love Madeline but shan't be using that either.

daiseehope · 05/08/2012 00:54

Liliann is lovely though (lol v biased as it is my daughters' middle name too!) X

louisianablue2000 · 05/08/2012 00:54

Yeah, Hindley. Use as a middle name though and remember she died 10 years ago so none of your (as yet unconceived) daughter's friends will really know about her.

scarlettsmummy2 · 05/08/2012 00:58

Def not, it's actually a bit spooky.

HolyOlympicNamechangeBatman · 05/08/2012 01:09

Hindley for me too.

louisia I'm not sure that Myra Hindley being dead is going to erase her from the history books tbh

omfgkillmenow · 05/08/2012 01:41

Mara is nice tho

EllenParsons · 05/08/2012 02:00

Too much Hindley, definitely

Lillian is much nicer and has no bad connotations - definitely push for that especially if that is what she went by!

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 05/08/2012 02:20

mhari is lovely, ponouned between mary and marie, cant quite write it poneticaly. I supose it is a silent h.

FanjoPingpong · 05/08/2012 09:56

I'm 25, so perhaps of a slightly different generation, and I didn't think of Hindley.

DumSpiroSpero · 05/08/2012 09:59

No way! But Lillian is very pretty.

RillaBlythe · 05/08/2012 09:59

I'm 28 & did. But then I am from the north west.

Londonista1975 · 05/08/2012 10:02

I can understand the sentiment but am surprised at the thoughtlessness of using the name as a Christian one!

It used to be a popular name way back when...but I've never met anyone under 45 with the name and with damn good reason.

WithACherryOnTop · 05/08/2012 10:57

Hindley comes to mind immediately. It's never been a particuarly common name so that's the only association and certainly the first that comes to mind for the majority of the population.

Lillian is lovely, and a much better idea.

LeeCoakley · 05/08/2012 11:03

Lillian is lovely and reminiscent of Lillian Board our lovely silver medallist from 1968 Olympics who died so early at the age of 22.

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 05/08/2012 11:05

Ooooo no. As soon as you say Myra I think of hindley.

It's probably as it a more unusual name as Ian hasn't quite got the same connotation?

Clawdy · 05/08/2012 13:14

Maura perhaps...certainly not Myra. It will take many years for that name to be forgotten, especially in the Manchester area.

Bunbaker · 05/08/2012 13:16

Moira is nice. I have a friend called Moira who is lovely so I am biased.
