Was told about a poor little girl called this the other day.

Was my family BU to laugh a lot at this unfortunate name? When I was a little girl your tuppence was your fanny!

Tuppence Middlenton comes to mind.

re. fanny - same could be said for Will/Willy for boys, no?

NorbertDentressangle · 11/06/2012 15:05

I know of a girl called Tuppence.

Wonder if its the same one or whether there are more than one? How old was she?

sonniboo · 11/06/2012 15:07

I too think of Tuppence Middleton. Tuppy isn't a bad nickname actually?

OneHandFlapping · 11/06/2012 15:09

Aside from the fanjo thing, it's not a very grown-up name is it?

Can you imagine being treated by Tuppence the surgeon, or seeing Tuppence the lawyer, or Tuppence the CEO of Shell?

Haribojoe · 11/06/2012 15:09

DD1's nickname is tuppence!

debka · 11/06/2012 15:10

She was three. Who is Tuppence Middleton? Is she related to Kate?

Yup - undercarriage. Maybe its a nickname?

Frontpaw · 11/06/2012 15:12

My sister was at a christening where another child was called... whats the 2 name euphamism for willy? John something? Either way, she got the giggles and was scowled at.

squoosh · 11/06/2012 15:14

Was Will and Harry's nanny called Tuppence or something equally silly?

NorbertDentressangle · 11/06/2012 15:15

debka -theres more than one then as the one I know is older.

Whitershadeofpale · 11/06/2012 15:16

John Thomas?

mrsbugsywugsy · 11/06/2012 15:17

I know someone with a cat called this

SirEdmundFrillary · 11/06/2012 15:18

When I was a little girl it was not, but I know someone who used to be told 'keep hold of your tuppence' when she was off for an evening out.

squoosh · 11/06/2012 15:20

Or in similar monetary euphemisms 'Keep your hand on your ha'penny'.

Although if I saw someone constantly holding her tuppence or her ha'penny that would be a bit disconcerting.

SirEdmundFrillary · 11/06/2012 15:22

I'm trying to formulate something about pound coins and pudendas but it's not coming off.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 11/06/2012 15:23

Tuppence can only bring to mind Tuppence Beresford. As in Tommy & Tuppence. I believe her real first name was Prudence though!

Frontpaw · 11/06/2012 15:24

William and Harrys nanny was called something like Tiggy or something. You can get away with it if you are dead posh!

DottieRose · 11/06/2012 15:25

I think it is a super cute name....live and let live!

squoosh · 11/06/2012 15:29

Tiggy! That was it, posh people be bonkers.

MaryPoppinsBag · 11/06/2012 15:29

Definitely name for a fanjo in the 1980's round my way.

Their many was Tiggy Legge Burke (sp?)

MaryPoppinsBag · 11/06/2012 15:33

Many = Nanny!

eatyourveg · 11/06/2012 15:36

I know of a Tuppence too. She is older than 3

PercyFilth · 11/06/2012 15:45

I thought of the Agatha Christie one as well. I suspect it'll be a nickname though. Looked at three random year statistics and no Tuppence (or Twopence).

Tiggy's first name is Alexandra, if memory serves.
