If you had an Angus what would you call no2?

DS is Angus Duncan James. I love his name and want something we love equally for no2 (not imminent so no rush, just pondering!).

I like Rory, DH not keen unless it's spelt 'properly' - ruari, ruaraidh (see my problem?)
If DS had been a girl he might have been Iris, or Eilidh.

Your thoughts welcome!

You need something equally Scottish I think -
Fraser
Hamish
Lewis
Murdo
Struan

Or for a girl -
Eilidh
Kirsty (I am particularly biased towards this!)
Iona

Herrena · 06/06/2012 17:36

I knew an Angus who had a younger brother Hamish... that seemed rather appropriate!

iliketea · 06/06/2012 17:37

Elspeth for a girl.

Callum or Cameron for a boy.

FoofFighter · 06/06/2012 17:37

Gregory

LeeCoakley · 06/06/2012 17:45

Finlay
Fraser
Malcolm

BrigitBigKnickers · 06/06/2012 17:49

Mackinlay
Finbar
Finlay

TessTosterone · 06/06/2012 17:56

Hector (LOVE this)
Dougal
Fraser
Gregory

Was going to suggest Duncan before I read the op!

MagdalenaAlec · 06/06/2012 17:59

I have an Alec and in the list for DC2 were Iain and Alasdair (both ruled out because the family is not entirely Scottish and I also want 1 child to carry my own heritage :o )

Inthesleeplessnightgarden · 06/06/2012 18:00

Thanks for your suggestions, I like Struan for a boy and Kirsty for a girl (in fact Kirsten was on the list last time). We have an o' surname but aren't remotely irish (as spotted from DS's name, my DH is a scot) so finbar or similar doesn't sit quite right.
Malcolm doesn't sound like a child's name ( though I appreciate all malcolms were babies once!) and Finlay and variants seem to be everywhere at the mo.
Thanks again!

Ooh also Alasdair.

Gregor (not Gregory!)

ellangirl · 06/06/2012 18:05

Gregor better than Gregory IMVHO

I like Rory but agree with your DH that the Scottish spelling is nicer, if you live in Scotland. Otherwise might just be confusing!
Lachlan or Magnus?

For girls, elspeth, Marnie, Iona, Maura, morven, morag, murron (I have an m theme today!)

ellangirl · 06/06/2012 18:05

Cross posts gnocchi!

eastendywendy · 06/06/2012 18:08

If it was a boy I'd call him Lachlan. If a girl I'd call her Elspeth.

Inthesleeplessnightgarden · 06/06/2012 18:10

We don't live in Scotland, or indeed the UK so complicated spellings not great.
But what do we think of Mhairi? Mairi? or Ishbel?

I know Angus's with brothers called, Alex, Alistair and Rory. Not all in the same family I should add! Grin

Lachlan and Hamish would be my vote and Iona for a girl. I also really like Murray or Moray, Douglas or Douglas!!

oh how I miss Scotland

eastendywendy · 06/06/2012 18:22

Mhairi is pronounced Vari btw.

Inthesleeplessnightgarden · 06/06/2012 18:24

Mmm I like Iona but think with our O' surname it's a bit of a mouthful. quite like Islay.

I know a Shona, Angus, Finlay, Duncan, Fraser, Mhairi, Bonnie, Elspeth and used to know a Struan at school. All lovely names.

ceeveebee · 06/06/2012 19:19

Angus was on our list but we went with Roderick, Roddy for short, and I really love it!
