Just done a search and apparently DS's lovely old testament name is considered chavvy on here Hmm

puds11 · 03/06/2012 17:22

Really? What is it? I can judge.

bamboozledAardvark · 03/06/2012 17:25

Levi

puds11 · 03/06/2012 17:28

Not in this country i don't think. Ive never met a levi, but i know its popular in America. I would say not chavvy Smile

CakeBump · 03/06/2012 17:28

I've had cats called George, Jude, Jeff and River

I see you've ruled out Tyler now, but just for the record, its a naughty boy's name in my book (I'm a teacher).

Oscar and Lucas both perfectly good names imho.

Sarcalogos · 03/06/2012 17:30

I dont think Levi is automatically chavvy, think its the sort of name the crosses all types of people.

bamboozledAardvark · 03/06/2012 17:33

See I feel the same about Tyler, obviously in the minority though :)

Also, IMO, names that surge in popularity like Oscar and Lucas will be the Tyler of the future.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 03/06/2012 17:34

The only Tyler I've met was a boy I was at school with, nasty kid which is probably why I don't like the name. Like Oscar and Morgan though.

bamboozledAardvark · 03/06/2012 17:34

Sorry that wasn't very clear, they'll be the Tyler of the future in the sense that they will cover a wide range of people but will be classed as chavvy by some.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 03/06/2012 17:37

I am going to hide this section.
Considering what a lovely subject it is it seems to attract the most nasty comments.

CakeBump · 03/06/2012 17:41

I don't see anything on this thread that's nasty, MrsDeVere?

misslinnet · 03/06/2012 17:43

Some might consider all the chav type comments nasty....

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 03/06/2012 17:44

Chav,white trash, lack of class.....
Delightful.

SleepyFergus · 03/06/2012 17:47

I also don't see anything nasty. The OP asked for opinions and folks have come
back and given their honest thoughts.

I'm afraid I'm with the chavvy camp on this one. That's my gut reaction I'm afraid.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 03/06/2012 17:52

Do you really not understand that chavvy is a nasty term to use?
Seriously?

TidyDancer · 03/06/2012 17:56

Let's put this a different way.

Tyler and Morgan are what my mother would call plastic names. They are trendy for about five seconds and then they just seem dated and cheap.

But yes, they are both names that I have only ever heard on people who would meet the classic 'chav' requirements.

Oscar is okay though. Not one of my favourite names, but quite sweet.

Sarcalogos · 03/06/2012 18:01

I can't remember a time when I felt Tyler was a nice or classy name. That's what makes it long term different from Oscar and Lucas.

I accept that that is just my opinion though.

bunnybabylon · 03/06/2012 18:04

tyler is an american name, as it morgan

would love to know what names posters on here have called their children!

naice english middle class names like james probably

CakeBump · 03/06/2012 18:07

Everyone is entitled to their opinion...

TidyDancer · 03/06/2012 18:08

bunny, I don't think either name is American.

Not sure what your point is though.

usualsuspect · 03/06/2012 18:12

If you don't think that the words chav or white trash are offensive then you must be a bit thick

bunnybabylon · 03/06/2012 18:13

baseball player called tyler and also american arts journalist

my point being it's an american name unless you class all american names as chavvy

er that's my point
lol

usualsuspect · 03/06/2012 18:13

And don't get me started on the council estate comments

TidyDancer · 03/06/2012 18:15

That doesn't make them American names, bunny....

So, er, still not getting your point.

Your sentence "my point being it's an american name unless you class all american names as chavvy" doesn't make sense.

bamboozledAardvark · 03/06/2012 18:16

Sorry if my posts came across as offensive, I was trying to say that you can't brand names as being 'chavvy' or whatever you want to call them but it did come out a bit wrong Blush
