What are your thoughts on this name?

It's nice. I know three Isla's though. I e is five and her mother is Scottish. One is six and she is from Japan and one is 9 months and she is Iranian.

savoycabbage · 05/05/2012 14:28

Dodgy apostrophe there!

Sandalwood · 05/05/2012 14:30

So long as she doesn't want to marry someone with the surname White or Mann.

savoycabbage · 05/05/2012 14:31

Grin I have NEVER thought of that! I will now though...

noonar · 05/05/2012 14:32

lovely but prob more common than you think amongst new babies

Thumbwitch · 05/05/2012 14:34

Ha, someone beat me to it with the surname thing.
Fine if you don't have a surname that is the same as an island. Grin

Bunsouttheoven · 05/05/2012 14:35

I like it & know of one baby with that name.

EllenParsons · 05/05/2012 14:46

LOVE it but it is definitely getting quite popular if that bothers you.

MarySA · 05/05/2012 15:36

I must say I like it. Though I don't usually go for the more unusual names. But it seems to be getting more popular.

evamummy · 05/05/2012 15:40

Do you pronounce it Ee-sla (like Isla Bonita) or Isle-a? If it is the latter, a lot of non English speakers will mispronounce it imo.

evamummy · 05/05/2012 15:41

Isla Mann or Isla White Grin

nizlopi · 05/05/2012 16:03

really overused.

BibiBelle · 05/05/2012 16:21

Loads in Scotland if that bothers you

tara0202 · 05/05/2012 16:30

I like it, its a lovely name and I don't know any kids called Isla.

BBQJuly · 05/05/2012 16:59

Not especially keen, but then I'm old enough to remember this

How about Iona?

OnlyWantsOneTwoAndThree · 05/05/2012 17:01

It's my aunts name. She's in her 60s Smile

sunnyday123 · 05/05/2012 17:11

I loved the name Isla when having DD2 - shortly after we had her we text everyone saying she would be called Isla or (current name). We got LOADS of people saying IS-LA! That put me off straight away as very few people know how to pronounce it - unless they know one already. We chose our other name in the end for this reason despite loving it.

poppydaisy · 05/05/2012 17:13

I don't know any Islas (south west london) and I wouldn't even know how to pronounce it (Ees-la or Ayla)?

jenrose29 · 05/05/2012 17:18

I would pronounce it I-La. I didn't realise there were other ways to pronounce it!

tammytoby · 05/05/2012 20:58

The Madonna song Isla Bonita comes to mind, hence Ees-la as another way of pronouncing it.

boyfallingoutofthesky · 05/05/2012 21:45

My daughter's name, but we used a different (and more meaningful to us) spelling. Unfortunately it has become very popular, so if this bothers you I would find something else - I would imagine if you give a baby this name now the likelihood of others in her class will be high. I can't imagine anyone having difficulty with the pronounciation, particularly now it is so well known.

MrsPlanB · 06/05/2012 10:20

Lovely name, very popular,

lovechoc · 06/05/2012 10:26

Would only say it as Aye- Lah. Have never heard it pronounced in any other way...

lovechoc · 06/05/2012 10:27

Nice name and know of one called Isla (she's just over 2yo now).

jinglymum · 06/05/2012 10:49

I love it, it was one of our possible names although spelt, Aylar.
