Best ones are:

Kate- can be used a a beautiful simple elegant name in its own right. (wish I was caked this)

Alice- pretty yet not cloying, feminine yet not weak. (I'd also like to be called this)

All the others- nice enough, not objectionable, but mostly a bit now, very popular a bit ten to the penny.

Particular Eva. So many eve, Evie's, Ava's, Eva's

FlorenceInTheLatrine · 04/05/2012 21:15

Wow, feel quite unlucky that versions of Eva are so popular right now! My life has been entirely child free up to now so I hadn't realised! Thank you MN:)

Well I have a Katie (Katherine officially) and an Alice Isabel so I think you have a great choice of names!

EllenParsons · 04/05/2012 22:24

I like all of them, but Evie less so as it seems like a nickname.

My favourite would be Freya.

poppy283 · 04/05/2012 22:32

I like Kate best, if you don't like Katherine, how about Caitlin for the birth certificate?

FlorenceInTheLatrine · 04/05/2012 23:33

I like Caitlin, but isn't it Scottish? I always think Scottish when I hear it, and we have no Scottish connections at all.

I think it's Irish, but it's been used in England for so long I wouldn't say it matters. I believe it's pronounced Kathleen in Ireland too.

pommedechocolat · 05/05/2012 07:03

Holly
Alice

Freya nice too

RobinSparkles · 05/05/2012 07:49

I like all of your names, especially Isabel (I have one Wink ) but the thing with Isobel that might get annoying, particularly if you have a difficult to spell surname, no one ever spells it right because there are so many different spellings!

Born2BRiiiled · 05/05/2012 08:25

Alice is a great name. Strong but pretty. Kate is great too. Also strong and a pefectly good name in it's own right. Both are fab for grown women. Holly, Evie translate less well for grown ups imo. Isabel and Frets are very "now".

Vessel · 05/05/2012 08:56

Holly and Evie!

abbypumpkin · 06/05/2012 22:37

I had Isobel, holly, Freya and Kate on my list.
Oh doesn't like Isobel (my first choice) and just laughed at Freya. We decided against Kate as we're from yorkshire so the 't' at the end of Kate had to be deliberately pronounced (the accent generally means it would be half dropped). Holly is our back up name but oh said it should be a Christmas name.

Isobel has nn potential (love izzy) (or could be belle) But she would prob have to spell it all the time as there are a number of variants
Holly is straightforward no confusion or misspelling
Kate is lovely but she might get called Katie a lot or people would presume she's a Katherine (if that bothers you)
Evie and Eva are both nice and simple names
Really don't like Alice but think it's because I was at school with one who was strange!

NappiesandGladrags · 06/05/2012 22:48

Alice
Kate

and how about

Annabel (Isobel seems very popular at the moment)
Elsa or Elsie as opposed to Evie (again v popular) or Ava

FlorenceInTheLatrine · 08/05/2012 12:38

Didn't realise that about the Yorkshire accent and Kate abbypumpkin! We're in Yorkshire too, but not from here. Will have to get all my Yorkshire friends to say Kate for me and see what it sounds like Grin

I love Annabel Nappiesand, can't stand Elsa or Elsie. Not sure why, just never liked the sound of them!

PestoPenguin · 08/05/2012 12:40

Eva or Isobel

MrsJohnDeere · 08/05/2012 13:11

Kate or Alice

TheMightyMojito · 08/05/2012 13:18

Freya is a lingerie range.

I imagine Freya would sound like "Frair" in Yorkshire accent?

valiumpoptarts · 08/05/2012 13:23

Well my name is Kate and therefore I think that is the best!! Grin have always been v thankful to parents that its not Kathrine / Kathryn / Caitlyn too as they're a bit more common Wink
Love Alice as a name too :)

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 08/05/2012 13:27

Kates oop north do get 'Kay'' or 'Kert', depending where in the north you are!

I don't care though - still used it, still love it!

FlorenceInTheLatrine · 08/05/2012 16:55

Thanks for all the opinions. I really can't decide now. I think I'll forget about what the name sounds like in Yorkshire, just adds another complication! We probably won't be staying here for that much longer anyway (though I do love it - England's best county IMHO)

CaoNiMa · 09/05/2012 14:34

They're all horribly ordinary, TBH.

welovesausagedogs · 09/05/2012 14:50

My favourite is Freya
Then Evie

Salamanda · 09/05/2012 14:55

I am looking for something ordinary Cao! But if you think they are horrible names in themselves, then fair enough.

Salamanda · 09/05/2012 14:57

Whoops, apologies - I am the OP but posting on another thread under a different name!

3rdnparty · 09/05/2012 15:00

Alice is my favourite- would have been ds name if not ds! love it cool and classic - not lots either round here whereas knee deep in eve/evies/isobel variants...also like Holly and Freya , Kate ok
