Opinions on Anthea?

I like the meaning, literary references and the fact that it could be seen as an anagram of Athena, an excellent role model! What are your opinions on Anthea? What type of job would you expect an Anthea to have, that sort of thing?

TV presenter, blonde.
(Redfern, Turner)

Don't know any others. Possibly a primary school teacher, or a librarian.

Give us a twirl....

marshmallowpies · 25/04/2012 06:26

Anthea Turner = Princess Tippy Toes. Sorry!

Also it auto-corrected on iPhone to 'anthrax' Hmm

pinkmagic1 · 25/04/2012 06:49

Don't like Anthea but love Athena

nizlopi · 25/04/2012 08:13

Not nice, sorry.

sonniboo · 25/04/2012 09:18

I think Anthea is a lovely, feminine, not overused name. I could imagine an Anthea doing any job, honestly!

bringbacksideburns · 25/04/2012 09:20

Ooh no, i don't like it sorry.

It sounds like an elderly member of the W.I.

smother · 25/04/2012 09:23

I don't like Anthea.

Nicer names that are similar are:

Anthena
Thea
Delphi
Saskia
Anoushka
Malaika

Stellan · 25/04/2012 10:11

First thought was Anthea Turner.

Not sure why you'd want to use it when Athena is a lot prettier!

ThatllDoPig · 25/04/2012 10:14

Thea is much nicer.

squoosh · 25/04/2012 10:29

Turner

Ilovedaintynuts · 25/04/2012 10:32

Anthea is horrible. I was bullied by an Anthea. Also that loathesome Anthea Turner.
Thea is quite pleasant.

Not keen on Anthea.
Like Athena and Thea.
What about Alethea?

NadiaWadia · 25/04/2012 12:08

Anthea is not a name that would have occured to me, but thinking about it, it sounds nice.

ViolaCrayola · 25/04/2012 12:17

Turner

But I'm sure this association would fade if I knew a little baby/girl with the name. Could be Annie or Thea.

nizlopi · 25/04/2012 13:39

The name Athena is also stupid.

Thumbwitch · 25/04/2012 14:43

What is "stupid" about the name Athena? it's the name of a Roman goddess, ffs! Or perhaps you were only aware of it as the name of a poster shop?

Anonymumous · 25/04/2012 15:27

I like Calanthe or Calanthea. For some reason, I don't like the name at all without the 'Cal' at the beginning!

But if you like Athena, why not just go for that instead of settling for an anagram of it? Confused

babaloulou · 25/04/2012 15:35

I love Anthea. By the time your little one is grown up no one will know A.turner.
It would have been on my list but it's already in my family. I also like Vanessa.

tammytoby · 25/04/2012 15:36

I really like Anthea - beautiful, feminine and a little different! Great choice imo.

Stellan · 25/04/2012 15:48

The OP wants to change her name imminently so everyone will know Anthea Turner!

EdithWeston · 25/04/2012 16:03

I think Redfern, and it seems from earlier posts that I'm not alone in that. So if that 1970s association is still going strong, I should imagine the Turner one has a good many years still in it.

Thumbwitch · 25/04/2012 16:12

Agree with Edith - I sort of envisage Anthea Turner turning into Mary Whitehouse as she gets older, not entirely sure why Confused but can't see this generation of babies getting away with it!
