A long list of boy names!

We are expecting a baby boy in August and are starting to pull together some name lists. We have one name that we both love, Rex, but it doesn't quite feel like a fit right now but maybe that is because he is not here yet if you see what I mean!

Would love your opinions on the following:

Names I love and DH likes:

Nye
Wilfred
Thaddeus

Names DH loves and I like:

Arthur
George
Henry

Names we both like but neither loves:

Rufus
Vaughn
Douglas
Elias
Barnaby
Albert
Stanley

Thanks in advance!

Meant to add, our surname is two syllables and begins with P, combine Parmer and Durham and you have pretty much got it!

I like George, Henry, Rufus and Elias.

tammytoby · 21/04/2012 15:02

Love, love Thaddeus and Aneurin (Nye)!

How about Quentin, Vincent or Felix?

rachel1970 · 21/04/2012 15:08

Thaddeus and Elias are my favourites from your list. I find your dh's suggestions a little dull and overused, sorry.

glittershoes · 21/04/2012 15:11

Thanks for the quick responses!

You are definitely on the right lines tammytoby! My brother is Felix so that is out but I toyed with Quentin for a while (DH hated) and DH loves Vincent (me not so much)!

I am obsessed with Thaddeus and Aneurin but, unfortunately DH has completely vetoed Aneurin but does like Nye by itself. I have an ultimate plan to go with Nye and then at the last minute persuade him to put Aneurin on the birth certificate! Although that may be a tad mean!

I do like George very much BBQJuly but worry it is too popular.

Don't be sorry rachel - I agree! He is a bit conservative when it comes to boy names, now girls names he was just as adventurous as me but apparently 'boys can't handle having an unusual name as well as girls' - I know, I know!

Rex is by far the best out of them. The only other name on your list I like is Douglas.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/04/2012 16:27

Nye - horrible
Wilfred - fine
Thaddeus - love this

Arthur - don't like
George - don't like
Henry - really dislike

Rufus -ok
Vaughn - horrible
Douglas - horrible
Elias - love this
Barnaby - love this
Albert - don't like
Stanley - hate

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/04/2012 16:28

I like Vincent. Rex is terrible.

cece · 21/04/2012 16:32

Nye - ?! not for me
Wilfred - OK, quite like the name Wilf for nn
Thaddeus - no!
Arthur - OK
George - OK
Henry - OK
Rufus - not one I would use but can sort of see the appeal
Vaughn - ummm, could grow on me
Douglas - like
Elias - no
Barnaby - no
Albert - no
Stanley - like
Rex - like a lot

Out of that list I would use either Rex or Stanley

iseenodust · 21/04/2012 16:36

Top two from your lists

Rufus and Barnaby

Don't lumber him with Quentin.

mopsyflopsy · 21/04/2012 19:24

I like Aneurin (Nye), Rufus, Douglas and Barnaby.

We have a Quentin, so love that too. I don't think he feels 'lumbered' with his name, iseenodust Smile.

CrackersandCheese · 21/04/2012 19:27

Your surname is palmerham?! Grin

mopsyflopsy · 21/04/2012 19:35
Grin

I think she means Parham, but Parma ham would be very funny!

cakeismysaviour · 21/04/2012 19:40

Bruno?

SuperScrimper · 21/04/2012 19:46

There are soooo many Georges and Henrys out there at the moment it just screams lack of imagination to me.

Rex is great. Classic but unusual.

TidyDancer · 21/04/2012 19:47

Henry is easily the nicest name on your list.

sonniboo · 21/04/2012 19:49

Thaddeus, Nye and Barnaby are gorgeous. I also love Quentin and Vincent.

Yes, George and Henry are very widely used already.

Pinkush · 21/04/2012 19:55

My vote: George, Arthur and Henry (but like your DH, I am v conservative with boys names). I love an easy life and couldn't deal with a raging teenage boy hating me for giving him a "different" name!

glittershoes · 21/04/2012 20:54

I would love it if our surname was Parma Ham but mopsy flopsy has it right!

Thanks for all your comments. It is so hard, finding the right name for him!

Keep the opinions coming - it is really eyeopening to see how they are all perceived (and a tad gratifying that I'm am being proved right with Henry, Arthur and George being popular; DH seems to be convinced that they are super unusual....)

SuperScrimper · 21/04/2012 20:55

I go to a baby group with 4 Henry's out of 10 children!

RickGhastley · 21/04/2012 21:00

Tip for getting Aneurin on the birth certificate: Spell it Aneirin (also a genuine welsh name) as it is easier for English speakers to pronounce when they see it written down.

Worked for me Smile !!
