Do you like it?

In principle, yes. It's a classic name and one that isn't off the scale on the most popular charts at the moment.

I wouldn't personally use it as it's the name of someone I know and don't like :(

PercyFilth · 05/04/2012 13:11

I can never get past the fact that it means 'to fart' in French.

mistressploppy · 05/04/2012 13:13

Yeah, I know - the fart thing. But it's pretty appropriate in our family Grin

Yes I like it. It's underused and classic.

wigglesrock · 05/04/2012 20:51

Its lovely, my husband absolutely loves it, its his favourite name ever Grin, we have 3 daughters but it was in his running for a name if we had boys.

tummytickler · 05/04/2012 20:55

I love it. It is one of ds's middle names, and I often wish we had saved it to use as a first name.

LargeGlassofRed · 05/04/2012 21:00

Love it! Dt2's middle name.

Tigresswoods · 05/04/2012 21:01

One of DS's middle names as it my Dad's name.

Like. Grin

lordsugarslovechild · 05/04/2012 21:13

My Ds's middle name too!

Lyftiduft · 05/04/2012 21:21

my DS's middle name too, after my DB :)

Liveinthepresent · 05/04/2012 21:39

It is a great name - it means rock

TerrierMalpropre · 05/04/2012 21:41

Lovely. Underused now and ready for a comeback. On holiday this year we met a family with a Peter, Elizabeth and Lucy. Absolutely perfect names, IMO.

EdithWeston · 05/04/2012 21:41

Lovely.

Just don't use it as a sibling name with Henry.

EllenParsons · 05/04/2012 21:51

I really like it. It's a strong classic. Edith, what's wrong with using Henry and Peter? Confused

EdithWeston · 05/04/2012 21:55

Horrid Henry's brother is Perfect Peter.

The books are still going strong at the moment (with CITV showing the cartoons a lot). The combination might not therefore be that great for now, and likely to be harder on "perfect" than "horrid" IYSWIM.

HappyHoppyChick · 05/04/2012 22:52

It is ds2s name, so yes we like it!

It's lovely. Go for it!

ripsishere · 06/04/2012 08:50

I can't think of a Peter that I know under the age of 50. Astonishing.
I quite like the name but, in common with John, it doesn't seem like a name for a baby ITMS.

PercyFilth · 06/04/2012 11:09

They are only babies for the blink of an eye. People should never forget that they are choosing a name for an adult.

ripsishere · 06/04/2012 11:41

I know that, it's just so odd on a small scrap. My friend has a John, it was really peculiar having such a grown up name.
He's grown into it now.

supernannyisace · 06/04/2012 11:47

yes. I like it too.

I don't know if I like it being shortened to Pete though ??

GoGoBananas · 06/04/2012 11:51

I know only adult Peters and a female Peta. But I rather like it for a baby. It's a good, solid name and will see them through from tiny scrap to a hulking great teen and beyond.

welovefashion · 06/04/2012 12:44

i don't like it personally, i know so many people with this name - grandparents, my dad, fellow parents. I just can't imagine it on a child somehow.

Bellaholland · 06/04/2012 12:50

Peter is my dads name. I have never really thought about it for a son but reading these comments I start to really warm to the idea! Trouble is in Holland where I live the English spelling of Peter is pronounced totally different. We would have to spell it Pieter at I am not sure how people in UK would read this? I am thinking Pieter Jacob or Pieter Ben or Ben Pieter. Sorry for the slight gate crash on your post!
