Is Beatrice too similar to sibling name?

Sister would be Iris, but I've just realised when you say them together the is/ice ending is pronounced the same. Are they too similar do you think? If so what do you think is a good alternative? I loved Juniper but DP having none of it!
Also middle name starts with a J so initial would be B J surname, is that a bit cruel for a girl?! All thoughts appreciated.

I think they are lovely names that really compliment each other.

DoubleGlazing · 31/03/2012 13:04

I'd go back to the drawing board I'm afraid, for the initials reason and similarity reason you've mentioned.

Iris and...

Holly
Juliet
Emma
Victoria
Annabel/Annie
Amber
Xanthe
Poppy
Cara
Louisa

Thanks for the replies. 50/50 then! That's kind of how I feel! I really like Elsa too, but have liked it for so long (since just after Iris was born) that I've either got used to it or gone off it! Maybe once new baby is here my love for it will return if she looks like one! Thoughts on that one appreciated too?!

Iris and Elsa go well together. Personally not that keen on Elsa but if you like it then definitely keep it on the list!

AtticusFlinched · 31/03/2012 14:15

There's always Beatrix, rather than Beatrice which would avoid the similar 'is / ice' sound. Though, it does still give you the unfortunate initials...

How about Elise as a variation to elsa? I think Iris and Elise sound very good together...

DoubleGlazing · 31/03/2012 16:28

Iris and Eloise, or Elodie, would be nice too.

sunnyday123 · 31/03/2012 16:39

cant you just change middle name as presumably you like that less (or you'd have it first). Or like me have no middle names!

To be fair how often do people write their names B. J...... anyway so dont let it put you off

pixiestix · 31/03/2012 16:59

Elsa is great and so is Juniper.

welovesausagedogs · 31/03/2012 17:09

I like Iris and Beatrice, sound quite similar but not so similar that it's a problem

upsydaisyboo · 31/03/2012 18:15

We have an Iris and a Beatrice, but she is always known as Bea so the 'hissy' endings don't matter too much!

Tricksterfrickster · 31/03/2012 19:59

Ah ha * you've confirmed it's a great match, we have similar tastes! Thanks for all your comments, will ponder some more. Still slightly worried about the BJ initials but then it's not that often they are written down is it?

That should say ah ha Upsydaisy. Silly iPhone

Doubleglazing I like your suggestion of Xanthe, is it pronounced as one syllable ie Zanth or two syllables like Zan-thee?

OP posts:
xkcdfangirl · 31/03/2012 20:09

I don't think Beatrice and Isis are too similar, but please don't give her the initials BJ. I have these initials and suffered for it. Add another middle name between the B and the J. Please.

DoubleGlazing · 31/03/2012 20:29

ZAN-thee

Tricksterfrickster · 31/03/2012 20:31

Hmm thanks for that xgirl, you've confirmed my worries with your experience then.
Middle name will be Joy and we have toyed with using it as a first name, but it seems a lot to load a child with (what if she isn't always happy?!) How does Iris and Joy sound?

OP posts:
Tricksterfrickster · 31/03/2012 20:32

Ah I like Xanthe now, thanks for clarification on that. This is getting more difficult now....

Iris and Elspeth... NN Elsa?

bellamysbride · 31/03/2012 20:56

I'm a BJ Smile. Never had any teasing problems with it.

doctordwt · 01/04/2012 10:59

I think you could get away with Beatrice if you're planning on her being Bea.

If not - and said together they are a bit samey - how about Nina?

Iris and Nina?

Nina Joy Beatrice?

pixiestix · 01/04/2012 11:01

How about Lowenna? Its the Cornish word for Joy. Smile

mrswoodentop · 01/04/2012 11:05

What about Josephine or joselyn similar to Juniper.
I love Beatrice by the way and think it gies fine with Iris

Tricksterfrickster · 04/04/2012 12:59

I like Lowenna, and Josphine and Nina, but DP is putting a spanner in the works and just keeps saying No! I nagged for Beatrice and now that's made it onto the list I find issues with it, typical! Thanks for all your input, it seems opinion is divided!
