Rosemary?

Hubby and I chose the name a couple of months ago, but as our due date gets closer I can't help but wonder if it really is as lovely as I first thought. Nobody else that I've told seems to like it at all :( (although DH is still convinced). I'm just a little worried with our surname 'Mallows' she's going to sound a little like a Cumbrian tourist attraction.

Any thoughts?

It's ok, not fabulous though. I'd lump it in with name such as Barbara and Hilary.

Rose is nicer.

lancelottie · 28/03/2012 14:13

Rose Mallow is a type of plant, though.

Stellan · 28/03/2012 14:17

Rosemary Mallows has a nice cadence to it, in my opinion. Lancelottie's comment about rose mallow, however, is duly noted. If you and your husband love the name, you should use it. It sounds like, however, you don't really love it so you might want to sit down with your husband and have a re-think. You could, alternatively, leave it until after your baby is born and make a decision once you've seen your daughter. It'd be good to have Rosemary on standby as a name you're both happy with if you don't come up with something you like more.

I don't mind Rosemary but, personally, I prefer Rose, Rosalie, Rosamund, and Rosalind.

DoubleGlazing · 28/03/2012 14:25

It's a lovely name :)

SunflowersSmile · 28/03/2012 14:26

Rosemary for remembrance my Auntie used to say.
I like it as a name.

farmerswifey · 28/03/2012 14:28

Ooh thank you Lancelottie I had no idea! A quick google search brings up a very lovely looking flower - although I'm not sure if that makes me like it more or less really?

Hubby and I both like Rosie. I just worry that when shes older it may sound just a little twee...

Lovely.

Psammead · 28/03/2012 15:43

I like it a lot.

welovesausagedogs · 28/03/2012 16:13

I like it, but if you like rosie as a name go for that, unless your are actually going to use rosemary most of the time.

Romy also is derived from rosemary and is pretty.

Nospringflower · 28/03/2012 16:18

Don't like it at all I'm afraid but it's not my child so if you're happy you should go for it. Like Rosie though Smile

FondleWithCare · 28/03/2012 16:33

It's ok, I much prefer Rosa personally.

madforfootball · 28/03/2012 16:37

What about Marcia?

(Sorry, couldn't resist!)

IAmYourSingingTelegram · 28/03/2012 18:28

I love it.

IAmYourSingingTelegram · 28/03/2012 18:29

And she always has the option of using Rosie when she's older,or Rose.

CupOfBrownJoy · 28/03/2012 19:09

Lovely, go for it if its what you want...

ShipsCat · 28/03/2012 19:20

I'm a Rosemary, but I've always been called Rosie Smile

kumquatsarethelonelyfruit · 28/03/2012 19:24

I love it. Rosie for a little girl and Rosemary for a grown woman. Really, really nice.

CecilyP · 28/03/2012 19:25

I like it, even though it is a bit 1950s; and she can always shorten it to the currently more popular Rose or Rosie if she wishes.

Chesticles · 28/03/2012 21:01

I really like Rosemary. I also really like Roseanna. Though now that I write it down Roseanna doesn't look right Confused

CheshireDing · 29/03/2012 08:00

I think Rosemary Mallows sounds fabulous.

If you are just questioning it because of other peoples opinions though it's not really anything to do with them is it. If you are questioning it because you might be going off the name then that's a different matter.

Why not have Rosemary as her registered name and call her Rose then?

Both are really pretty. I don't think the plant would worry me as it doesn't strike me as something lots of people would know automatically.

lancelottie · 29/03/2012 09:49

Ches --Rosanna, maybe, without the e?

3boysandagirl · 29/03/2012 09:54

I quite like Rosemary and Rosie/Rose as nn. You hardly hear of it now. I like Josephine too (just thought I'd add that!)

MagsAloof · 29/03/2012 10:04

It is growing on me. I would always have thought 'old lady name', but actually, it is a pretty name when you think about it. Rosemary Mallows is a lovely name to say out loud Smile

I prefer Rosa or Rose, though.

farmerswifey · 29/03/2012 19:05

Thank you all for your help - I think I just needed to hear somebody say they liked it too :)
