I have tried but I can't find anything nice to say about the name chosen by Mumsnet favourite Charlie Brooker for his new arrival ...

It is Covey.

C o v e y.

Oh dear.

Is it a made up name, or does it have a meaning I am unaware of?

weird, some bloke called covey was just on cbs reality cops programme Grin

HolyLentenPromiseBatman · 24/03/2012 22:07

I can't stand Charlie Brooker or Konnie Huq.

Covey isn't great, but I've heard worse.

Congratultions to them.

NadiaWadia · 25/03/2012 05:01

Is it a boy or a girl?

nooka · 25/03/2012 05:21

Perhaps it has Bangladeshi origins? It is a real word - apparently it originally was used to describe a hen sitting on her brood, but now is mostly used for a small group (of birds or people). Pronounced cu - vee (with the cu like cup).

Strange choice

Bearcrumble · 25/03/2012 10:35

I thought it was a kind of rodent? Or is that a Cavy?

Badgerina · 26/03/2012 12:40

Don't like it. I'm quite surprised that Charlie Brooker has chosen such a weird name. I'd have thought weird names would be one of the many things he'd rant about. I was imagining George, or something more solid.

Southwest · 26/03/2012 12:48

Ok who is Charlie Brooker?

hellokitty123 · 26/03/2012 12:54

No idea who Charlie Brooker is, so don't really care too much about his choices, but I think Covey is fine. I've heard a lot worse. At least it's easy to spell/pronounce and isn't used by millions of others already.

Sandalwood · 26/03/2012 14:36

Sounds like it's a bit like a cove.
Cove-ish.
Dorset coast is covey.

Is it a boy or girl? Can't even guess from the name.

Clawdy · 26/03/2012 16:18

The report I read said it is an Irish name.

lisaro · 26/03/2012 16:22

Oh dear - it is awful. Still, there'll probably be loads being DNA tested on Jeremy Kyle in a year or so.

SwedishEdith · 26/03/2012 16:26

Is it a misprint and meant to be Corey (which is still crap but a least a recognisable "name") I have never understood the sexual appeal of such a shrill-voiced man.

MadameMessy · 26/03/2012 16:35

Who is Charlie Brooker?
I am too lazy to Google. I didn't know Konnie Huq was pregnant

covey isn't great, as someone else said, it's reminiscent of the coast.
It is definitely not Irish

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 26/03/2012 16:39

Google says 'It is an Irish boys name meaning - Hound of the Plains'.

I really like it.

MadameMessy · 26/03/2012 16:44

There is no v or y in Irish, wonder how it is spelled then?
I wonder how accurate that website is. Google also says its a Scottish surname.
Its not listed in any Irish baby name book I have.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 26/03/2012 17:33

So they have actually called him Coe? Grin

RustyBear · 26/03/2012 17:40

Covey is a collective noun for a group of partridges, and I think some other types of game birds.

Konnie Huq is lovely, by the way. She came to the school I work at after I wanted a Mumsnet/Fairy liquid competition and she was great with the kids, especially the ones from our ASD resource.
