For a half-American boy?

Why not? Though I prefer Ches to Chet.

LaurieFairyCake · 19/03/2012 19:51

It's very very American. Before I opened this thread I thought 'not a chance unless he's American' Grin

HolyLentenPromiseBatman · 19/03/2012 20:22

No.

rachel234 · 19/03/2012 21:29

Why not? Sounds very British to me actually.

penguininpink · 19/03/2012 21:35

Chester is horrible but Chet is pretty cool actually!

Bletchley · 19/03/2012 21:37

Why is Chester nicknamed Chet?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/03/2012 21:40

Chester is bad but it sounds bloomin' gorgeous compared to Chet.

FilterCoffee · 19/03/2012 21:40

It sounds like a name for a dog or a horse, I think maybe because it's so surnamey.

MrsJohnDeere · 19/03/2012 21:43

I know a lovely Viszla called Chester.

PuggyMum · 19/03/2012 21:48

Chet reminds me of the older brother in weird science!

Love Chester though / Ches

chandellina · 19/03/2012 22:17

I love Chet but DH was having none of it. What could be cooler than Chet Baker? Not as keen on Chester but that is soley because it was the name of my grandmother's cat!

It does have an American sound though and will likely be rejected by Brits - see the recent "Walt" thread.

scarlettsmummy2 · 19/03/2012 22:29

It is the name of a dodgy nightclub I used to go to (illegally) when I was sixteen. He was a cheeky squirrel.

lisaro · 19/03/2012 22:37

They are both awful. Really awful.

upahill · 19/03/2012 22:39

There was a frog in our garden that we called Chet. bloody ugly it was so that is what it reminds me of.

nooka · 20/03/2012 05:17

Chet doesn't sound like a person to me. It's a bit harsh. Chester is a bit comedy too - makes me think of 'Chester Drawers' from the Fast Show, but that's almost certainly just because we were rewatching the show with our dcs recently.

SaraBellumHertz · 20/03/2012 05:29

When I was growing up slang for a peadophile was Charlie Chester. I don't know how wide spread that was but I would have to discount it on that basis.

Sorry

PaigeTurner · 20/03/2012 06:32

I don't like Chet. But I have a Chester and most people don't recoil in horror when they hear his name like they do on MN.

squoosh · 20/03/2012 10:12

Chet Baker - pretty cool.

squoosh · 20/03/2012 10:12

Chester - ick.

shoobidoo · 20/03/2012 10:37

I know a Chester and a Chad. I don't love either personally but I think they're fine as names - easy to pronounce/spell, not overused. Why not?

whippetwoman · 20/03/2012 12:41

I think it's a really sweet name and works well for a half-American boy as it is very American. I don't think people would react badly at all.

I have to say though, the only Chester's I know are all animals: a cat, a dog and a horse. But that doesn't make any difference whatsoever. I still like it as a name (for humans and animals)!

birdofthenorth · 20/03/2012 15:03

Chester is nice but Chet sounds a bit odd to me, sorry.

CaoNiMa · 22/03/2012 05:35

Just awful.

CheerfulYank · 22/03/2012 05:51

I like it, but then again I am American. :)

sashh · 22/03/2012 07:25

It's the name of a town, or a cat not a child, sorry
