London you (Mumsnet) are the only people I know "over there" so it wouldn't matter so much. :)

:o @ RichMan, I didn't even think of that! Now that song will be in my head all day.

I just love Jack so much...but I may have to give up on it due to surname. :(

I wouldn't personally use it, but I think it's nice.

How about Jason?

nizlopi · 19/03/2012 13:10

If his Dad's name is Jack then yes, that is awesome.

If not then not really.

noddyholder · 19/03/2012 13:19

I like it Don't like Jack though

anewmotivatedme · 19/03/2012 13:56

I immeditately think of the Johnny Cash song. A great song btw.

To me it's very American, but not a bad name. I don't dislike it, not particularly crazy about it either.

CaoNiMa · 19/03/2012 14:33

It's just awful.

CheerfulYank · 19/03/2012 18:22

Well, as stated, I am very American. :o

Sigh...I'll just have to give up on having a Jack. And I love it so!

The next names on our list are William or Charles. DH wants an Alexander but I worked with two "challenging" little Alex's so that is firmly out.

I don't think Jack or Jackson Brick sound nice, sorry. How about Josh?

Charlie Brick sounds lovely and Mr Charles Brick would be good for any adult.

scarlettsmummy2 · 19/03/2012 18:28

Don't like it or jack, both too populist.

Honestly? It's awful, only to be used as a surname. It's one of those new 'trendy names' that you'll hear being screeched all over soon.

CheerfulYank · 19/03/2012 18:40

Thanks HappyCamel, I do really like Charlie. We have a Sam already and Charlie goes well with that, I think. We like Nathan/Nate as well.

The OTHER problem is, I really want Frederick for a mn if I have another boy someday. My grandpa Fred and I were very close. He died six years ago and I still get upset if I think about it too much. He was lovely and I'd like to use his name.

However, say we do go with Charles. Charles Frederick Brick? It rhymes. Is that terrible?

I taught a Jackson who was never called Jack, he's 17 now and lovely. His family are very middle class and include a BBC news analyst so that doesn't fit your 'ooh it's so modern' stereotype. That said I much prefer Charles with your surname. And as for Frederick, if it's important to you use it, you don't say full names out loud very often (you don't even have to at your wedding anymore) and you could always add a second middle name.

Marmite2012 · 19/03/2012 19:13

I love it - sound like he'd be a right little tinker with that name!

RocketTheDoorDog · 19/03/2012 19:15

Yes, I agree, fine to use Frederick as a middle name, especially for a special reason Smile

We have very similar name tastes. My ds are either called or were going to be called some of your names... Except Jackson! (but still like Jack!) I love Sam too - just gorgeous. Smile

ragged · 19/03/2012 19:16

Meh.

SwedishEdith · 19/03/2012 19:27

Charlie can be shortened to Chuck - that's be great with Brick Grin

I don't like Jackson at all but Kathryn Flett has one and Phil Hogan so it's not unknown in UK media types circles, if that means anything at all. Probably not.

Psammead · 19/03/2012 19:57

Charles Frederick Brick Smile

That's a great name!

Love Charlie as a nn.

CheerfulYank · 19/03/2012 20:02

Me too...Charlie Brick just sounds like a sunny little person, doesn't he? I will tell DH it is settled and we can begin squeaking the springs, Psam. :o

Thank you Rocket. DS was very nearly Will but from the second he was born he's been a Sam through and through. :)

OP posts:
SwedishEdith · 19/03/2012 20:04

But Chuck Brick?

CheerfulYank · 19/03/2012 20:10

I will refuse to allow him to be called that, Swedish.

OP posts:
KenDoddsDadsDog · 19/03/2012 20:12

Charlie Brick is a mint name.

SwedishEdith · 19/03/2012 20:19

He could use it to his advantage and become CEO of a national housebuilding firm, or a property tycoon or a vandal Grin. It is cute.
