I'm looking for girls names which link in to 'green' somehow. The colour, not environmentalism!
Any ideas? I can only think of Jade....

Yeah just that really, DD is due around Spring equinox, and green is my favourite colour. We've exhausted all other avenues in trying to agree on a name, so thought I'd try something new... Yep trees will be fine, but not sure I like the ones you've listed astra!

Lorna (Lawn-a Wink )

MadameChinLegs · 18/03/2012 21:20

If you like tree names, what about Rowan, Hazel, Juniper, Laurel?

Iceaddict · 18/03/2012 21:26

I like blossom to and very fitting for spring

LaTristesse · 18/03/2012 21:33

Have been thinking about Juniper actually. Do you think we could get away with it? Is it not a bit too odd? DH loves Juno so that would keep him happy, but not sure I'd find a nn I like... Teal, Sage and Ivy are cool too. And Blossom is cute but not sure she'd thank me when she's older... Keep em coming, this is great inspiration!

Loving Juniper very very much.

Equinox is a lovely middle name. Not with Juniper though.

saralyn · 18/03/2012 21:39

Hazel (that's what you call green eyes in England, isn't it? )

LauARRRRRaPalmer · 18/03/2012 21:42

I like your own suggestion of Juniper the best (Juniper Leigh?), but how about Ever?

notnowImreading · 18/03/2012 21:43

Chloe means green in ancient Greek (yellowy spring-like green).

ButterPecanMuffin · 18/03/2012 21:46

Midori is the Japanese for green.

MadameChinLegs · 18/03/2012 22:12

Midori is also the name of (albeit very nice) liquer

fazsaeed · 18/03/2012 22:15

I was going to say ruby but then realised that's red lol
My other idea has been said emerald
It is a nice name :)

crochetcircle · 18/03/2012 22:19

There is a green Tara in Tibetan Buddhism?

lottiegb · 18/03/2012 22:27

Hazel eyes are light brown, like hazelnuts, saralyn. Green eyes are... green.

Verdigris
Linden (lime tree)
Sylvia (like sylvan - of woods and trees)
Laverne (vernal equinox)

Other trees that will be in leaf or blossom at the time - Willow, various fruit trees in blossom, or look here for seasonal floral inspiration: www.naturescalendar.org.uk/

Ivy/Iva
Larch
Tansy
Iris

Yarkona means green but it's not very pretty... Phyllis also means 'little green branch' but is kinda old ladyish! Laverna means 'born in spring'. Or how about April or May?

MadameChinLegs · 19/03/2012 11:18

Blush I wanted Elphaba (nn Elfie) but DH was having none of it.

Ilovemyscrumples · 19/03/2012 11:53

Mya? Apparently the african meaning of Mya is emerald.

CheshireDing · 19/03/2012 12:02

Willow is lovely and these days not too unusual I don't think. Rosemary is lovely too. I know you said she would be born in Spring but would it be too odd to call her Summer then?? Or as already mentioned Blossom.

I love the really feminine girly foliage names, but then I have a Poppy Grin so am biased.

How do you pronounce Elphaba? Is the ph and f? It sounds Roman/Latin.

BikeRunSki · 19/03/2012 12:11

I know a 3yo girl whose middle name is Green.

DerbysKangaskhan · 19/03/2012 12:11

Olivine (a beautiful green gemstone)

Marrow · 19/03/2012 12:16

How about Sorrel? I love it but Dh vetoed it for DD unfortunately.

Snapespeare · 19/03/2012 12:18

Luckily 'Wicked' came out after DD was born, or we may have had a baby Elphie!

Cheshire it's prounounced El-fah-bah and is the 1st name of the wicked witch of the west in the book/musical, 'Wicked'. It derives from the author of teh 'Wizard of Oz' L. Frank Baum = elphaba. :)
