We've decided to give DD due in June a Welsh middle name. DP is Welsh and we'd love to sort of honour that.

She's going to be called Rosalie and is also having Jean as a middle name.

We like Carys, Aerona, Rhiannon, Eilwen, Isolde, Ffion, Olwen.

We need some help picking and we'd love some other suggestions too.

Thanks.

Grin @ Belle

Belle my brother loves Ghostbusters and has suggested Janine for us.

DS1 didn't want a sister at all so it might help him a bit if he feels he's helped us.

I've always like Lowri.

LingDiLong · 15/03/2012 13:43

Wow, I've NEVER even heard of Magw, let alone met anyone with that name!

I really love Cerys, Seren, Elin, Cadi, Manon and Enfys. All very easy to pronounce too.

How about Angharad? Very classic and easy to pronounce Welsh name - would go will with the ones you've already chose. Nia is also lovely.

mejon · 15/03/2012 13:52

I agree with BelleEnd re Isolde -the Welsh version is Esyllt. Some books like some internet lists are a bit Hmm - I often see Imogen suggested as a Welsh name but it is not one I've ever come across in the language.

Anyway I digress, following on from the 'due in June' theme - how about 'Haf' (Summer) as a mn? DD1's mn is Haf and she was born in August.

SoFarWeAreEqual · 15/03/2012 17:24

Angharad is a really lovely name

Eira which means snow I believe

But the best by far is Manon - absolutely love this

PrisonerOfWaugh · 15/03/2012 17:27

The original form of Isolde is Esyllt and it most definitely is Welsh

Lovely names here

ProlificYoungGentlemenBreeder · 15/03/2012 17:27

Oh I love Seren!

BelleEnd · 15/03/2012 18:41

mejon speaks sense. I once looked on an american names site, which had a vast list of Welsh names for children. I swear to God, they were terrible. One I remember from there was Artaith- Pretty sounding, nice pronounciation- But it isn't a name. It means torture. :o

SoFarWeAreEqual has the best taste in names in the world. :o

hairybeast · 15/03/2012 18:54

My DD is Nia Smile

Mrsrobertduvall · 15/03/2012 19:01

I have Welsh family and love Eirwen, Eirlys, Carys, Nia, Rhian.
I have noticed that my very Welsh and unusual name is not mentioned here. [ smile]

SoFarWeAreEqual · 15/03/2012 19:19

BelleEnd - why thank you :o

ScatterChasse · 15/03/2012 19:35

Catrin and Nia are my favourites I think (I loved the Snow Spider trilogy). I like Bethan, Eirlys (is that snowdrop?) and Cerys too.

I met a little Cariad once, which I thought was quite sweet.

Jellykat · 15/03/2012 19:37

Oh i love Manon too SoFar

I know a Buddug, shortened to Budd - a lovely name too

Cwtchbach · 15/03/2012 20:48

I have a little Nia :)
Her middle name is Mari.
Other names I liked were: Non, Manon, Gwennan, Mali, Mair, Elin, Lowri, Eleri, Nerys, Cerys, Menna

Kayzr · 15/03/2012 20:55

I think the names that will go into the hat for DS1 to choose from are

Nia
Elin
Carys
Lowri
Olwen
Ffion
Mefin
Seren
Mali

I am not too sure on pronouncing Manon. I keep saying Man-on in my head but am not sure if it is right and DP is away with work so can't ask him. Grin

Thats how I have always heard it pronounced, my husband vetoed it because that's what they shout in football when someone is being marked apparently.

GrandPoohBah · 16/03/2012 00:32

Ceinwen? My mamgu's middle name :)

GrandPoohBah · 16/03/2012 00:34

I love Esyllt btw, but DH vetoed for being too difficult to spell for south Londoners. In fairness, I was almost an Angharad but my parents decided that it was a bit unusual for a child brought up in south London too!

startail · 16/03/2012 01:41

I suggested Angharad for DD2, but DH turned it into anhydrous (without water) Stupid Chemists!
