.... call our baby Farah, when our surname is Fawcett??
We both really like it, and its meaning, which is important to us. DH says fewer and fewer people will know who she was, and actually, I don't know anything about her other than she was an actress, once upon a time, and passed away last year (perhaps I should be embarrassed by my ignoranceBlush)
So can we call our baby Farah?

Seriously? No.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 05/03/2012 22:01

You can call her whatever you like. But a lot of people will comment so if you are prepared for that, do it.

faeriemoo · 05/03/2012 22:01

God no.

Littlefish · 05/03/2012 22:02

Absolutely no way. Ridiculous.

Kayzr · 05/03/2012 22:02

No just don't

BeckyBrandonNeeBloomwood · 05/03/2012 22:02

Sorry but I would say no! Both names are too unusual for people not to comment and laugh. Shame as Farah is lovely!

Cakestall · 05/03/2012 22:02

No,no,no and er no.

EdithWeston · 05/03/2012 22:04

That poster was a formative experience for a whole generation if young men, and Charlie's Angels had enormous audiences.

It'll be the first (and very strong) association for anyone over about 40, and well known by many younger than that too.

missingmymarbles · 05/03/2012 22:05

are you brave enough?

KenDoddsDadsDog · 05/03/2012 22:05

If you are looking for similar meaning names you could have Abigail or Beatrice?

CanWeReally · 05/03/2012 22:08

Sadly, as I thought.
No, I am not brave enough.
Yes, it is a shame because it is a lovely name.

Do you speak arabic?? If your not from one of the arab countries i think the name would be slightly strange, but if you are arabic then it's one of the nicer arabic names.

cece · 05/03/2012 22:13

It is a lovely name but no don't do it unless you want lots of comments.

I taught a Steve Austin once Hmm

RobinSparkles · 05/03/2012 22:17

I would like to say yes but, no not really.

It's so frustrating though! There are a few names that we could never use because there are quite a few famous people with our surname.

I actually have the same first name and surname as somebody famous (only since being married) and TBH nobody ever comments.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 06/03/2012 07:11

Who is Steve Austin?

thebossof3 · 06/03/2012 07:17

I have a son with the same name as a very well known author. Get some comments but not many a lot of people take a while to put 2 and 2 together Smile

FilterCoffee · 06/03/2012 08:17

No.

What other names do you like?

cece · 07/03/2012 08:15

Steve Austin - they will rebuild him!

TheOneWithTheHair · 07/03/2012 08:25

Ds is 15 and goes to school with a Micheal Jackson. He seems to manage fine. He does get comments but nothing nasty which given his history and that the boy is a teenager could have been a lot worse.

Also there are a lot worse people you could name your child after! I think it's ok.

Happenstance · 07/03/2012 08:30

Not really i wouldn't, it will just sound like you named her after Farrah Fawcett. I used to date a Neil Armstrong :)

Happenstance · 07/03/2012 08:32

cece how weird that he was married to Farrah Fawcett lol

sparkle12mar08 · 07/03/2012 10:06

I was Kate Jackson before I married, and yes I did get lots of comments, but nothing like what you'd get with a Farah!

BeckyBrandonNeeBloomwood · 07/03/2012 10:11

I have a friend called Adam West. He got a few comments from teachers at school, but most people of out generation didn't get it - i'd never heard of adam west until the comments by teachers!

Kayzr · 07/03/2012 10:11

Happen, I know a Neil Armstrong and he was named after the Neil Armstrong as he was born on the day they went to the moon. Grin

Stellan · 07/03/2012 13:09

You can but I don't think you should. Unless you really like Farrah Fawcett. People will assume you named your daughter after her.

Instead of Farah, you might like Adara, Alara, Barbara, Cara/Kara, Darrah, Freya, Lara, Mara, Sarah, Tara, Tarrah, Zara or Zahara. I'm not sure whether you pronounce Farah as far-ah or fah-rah so to get the right pronunication, you might want to stick a H on Lara or Mara or Zara to convey that.
