Sister for Archie with a very Scottish surname

DD will be nameless at this rate so I need a nice name which will go with our mc Scottish surname and sits nicely with Archie.
So far I like holly and Isla and dh likes Mary.

Any advances? Mary reminds me of an old aunt. Holly... not sure if a summer baby should be named with a christmassy name?

What do you all think? I love Molly but dh vetoed as had a dog called this.

I used to have a friend called Ishbel, a Scottish version of Isabel.
I always liked it, never had a girl though.

Thumbwitch · 20/02/2012 13:24

Fiona - underused these days.
Flora - lovely
Shona - also underused?
Melissa
Actually, even though I don't like the name Isobel much, it does go rather well with Archie... or Christobel?

I know an Archie with a sister called Anya which I think is lovely.

Also like Isla, Iona, Orla, Maya, Martha, Maisy, Daisy, Cora, Cara.

Not keen on Holly or Mary though.

pictish · 20/02/2012 13:52

It's not a popular one, but I still like Morag.

Isobel - Scots spelling.

I teach a Floraidh- pronounced Florrie, but Scots sp. Lovely name. Goes nicely with Archie.

Congratulations and good luck!

Flora - I love this and was my mother's name.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 20/02/2012 14:38

Jeannie is lovely and fairly unusual these days, so long as you can get over the genie usage.

fishandlilacs · 20/02/2012 14:50

I have a scottish hubby and an Isla. It's abeautiful, not massively popular but also not unheard of. Go for it xx

I also like Shona

I love Maisie McSomething.

And those Maisie books set in Edinburgh are truly awesome!

still30inmyhead · 20/02/2012 16:30

I'm Mum of 2 boys so sadly never got the chance to use my favourite Scottish girl's name: Ishbel.

It is not at all a common name so you'd be unlikely to come cross many others and has the advantage of being easy to spell, unlike most of the Gaelic ones! I think that it will also do well as a "grown-up" name - personally I'd avoid any names ending in "ie" or "y" which sound too little girly.

Far too many Islas and Ionas around these days!

Purplehonesty · 20/02/2012 16:38

Thanks for all the suggestions. Am loving anya or possibly Anna.
IShbel is nice too but it's got one of those old people feelings for me.
Maisie mcsomething is really lovely and goes well with Archie.
Hmm what to do!!
