Queenie

Thoughts on Queenie?

I love Queenie, we are in south east London and I love that she would have a sense of relevant local history to her name.

There are a lot of the old fashioned names coming back around here like Dolly, Mabel, Ethel and Maud so I don't think it would be that out there and I really do like the idea of her beng able to tell people about the history of her name.

I quite like it. Very apt in this diamond jubilee year.

Shoutymomma · 10/02/2012 18:50

Dear gawd, no. Mabel is pretty, as is Elsie, if you want old fashioned.

kerala · 10/02/2012 18:51

I like old lady names but this is taking it a step too far I think.

pilates · 10/02/2012 18:58

Awful - sorry.

Petrean · 10/02/2012 19:01

Sorry but I think it's absolutely horrendous! Was it even a real name or a nickname in 1930-50s?

LaFilleSurLePont · 10/02/2012 19:01

It's ghastly. Very 'Knees up Mother Brown'. It's not a name I'd care to live with. But then I think the others you listed are horrid too.

RickGhastley · 10/02/2012 19:02

Horrid II'm afraid!

lisaro · 10/02/2012 19:03

Way too far!!!

belgo · 10/02/2012 19:03

Stick with Elizabeth.

mynameis · 10/02/2012 19:04

It's my nans name as she's 88. She has never liked it and has always used her middle name.

scentednappyhag · 10/02/2012 19:06

I think it's gorgeous to be honest Smile

tummytickler · 10/02/2012 19:14

I love it! I want to use it (or Plum) for a nn for Victoria (if I ever have 12 children to name!)

PopcornBiscuit · 10/02/2012 19:15

It's no worse than Dolly, Mabel, Ethel and Maud.

SingingSands · 10/02/2012 19:16

Er, reminds of the old lady in the Adrian Mole diaries!

SparkleSoiree · 10/02/2012 19:16

Elizabeth is still a very beautiful, timeless name and would still serve the same purpose?

dawn1967 · 10/02/2012 19:31

I think it's quite cool and very individual. Would work as an adult too. Love it!

seeker · 10/02/2012 19:33

It was never a name in it's own right- always a nickname. And you can't possibly use it in a Jubilee year- you just can't!

PopcornBiscuit · 10/02/2012 19:35

People are always recommending Quentin on here, so I can't see why not Queenie :)

baskingseals · 10/02/2012 19:35

i quite like it

what name was it a nickname for? or just a nickname like 'princess'?

EdithWeston · 10/02/2012 19:36

When I was very small I knew a lady, who seemed very old, who was called Queenie. She was lovely, so I have good associations with the name.

If you want a regal name for 2012: Regina, Virginia, Gloria, Raine, Jubilee?

It was a pet name for Victoria originally.Presumably later for Elizabeth too.

TwllBach · 10/02/2012 19:43

Regina is my secret fantasy name. I would love to use it

PopcornBiscuit · 10/02/2012 19:43

Cyrene means "sovereign queen".

Chubfuddler · 10/02/2012 19:45

Jesus Christ no. And not Elsie either. It was my grandmother's name and she hated it.

Elizabeth, if you want something connected with the jubilee.
