I really wanted to call a son Pelham. Some Georgette Heyer hero who caught my fancy when I was aged about 14.
And I had a yearning for a daughter called Bathsheba.
You?
I'm not talking credible or in with a chance. I'm talking about the lovely names you wanted but everyone were too dim to see their wonder.

I love the name Reuben but my DH has vetoed it even though I put it at the top of my list for every DC Sad

Blythe

Fireandashes · 31/01/2012 22:27

If I had had children in my mid-teens, they would have been Sheridan Evangeline and Harlequin Sebastian. Ahem. Probably just as well I only have SC.

There are some fantastic names on this thread. I'm particularly disappointed we missed out on a tiny Agammemnon.

FelicityWits · 31/01/2012 22:35

Fire, Agamemnon WAS actually my teenage choice! I had DD when I was 19 (classics student....)

It's a great name, though I suspect now I'll only get to use it on a fish/hamster/similar ;)

Etta (after Etta James who recently died) dh is a massive blues fan and we both loved it but caved in to the disapproval of our families who thought it wasn't a proper name. Still quite wish we'd just gone for it.

marshmallowpies · 01/02/2012 10:57

Wow, we all seemed to love Greek names when we were teens...I would have called a DD Antigone or Athene if I had been 17, think I read a book where the heroine was called Athene & admired it greatly...

Booboostoo · 01/02/2012 11:14

Adriane (Byzantine and different from the ancient Greek Ariadne) - pronounced with the acent on the last syllable just to make it that little bit more difficult!

pathwithheart · 01/02/2012 11:28

If we'd had a ds would have liked Bede (as in the venerable from long ago) but as girls came out the argument didn't develop and none of our son-bearing friends have been persuaded of its merits

Love Flora, love Rafe, love Fritha, love Micah. Love, and have, a Cecily.

Rhubarbgarden · 01/02/2012 15:37

If I'd had one in my teens she would have been Linnet, after the character in The Children of Green Knowe. I still like it, but would worry it might be confused with Lynette, which is not nice.

OneManWentToMow · 01/02/2012 15:43

Lettice... it's a very old English name, but DH wasn't having it at all.

Minty82 · 01/02/2012 17:58

Oh, I love Linnet for exactly the same reason! And equally dislike Lynette...
If we're onto teenage taste, my list when I was 15 consisted of Pandora, Dylan, Ianthe and Raymond...

Kayano · 01/02/2012 20:00

Allenby and Eden for girls

stabiliser15 · 02/02/2012 10:45

India. I loved it, DH loved it and then everyone poo-poohed it and it put me off. We didnt use it for DD. If we ever have a DD2 I am sure we will use it, as I regret not using the name we loved most. I do love DD's name, but it is slightly more bland and I do sometimes wish I had stuck to my guns.

Thetokengirl · 02/02/2012 10:55

I wanted Orlando for DS1, also Noah, but both vetoed by DH.
Matilda for a girl, shortened to Tilda, but never had a girl Sad

Rillyrillygoodlooking · 02/02/2012 11:27

With DS I reeeeaaaaaallly wanted Claudio. Or Inigo.
If I'd have had my DS and in DD in my early teens they would have been Justin or Jason and Michelle. If I'd have had them in my late teens/early twenties they would have been Marlon and Harriet.

As it was I had them in my early/mid thirties. And I can't tell you their names.

My sister's name, my grandmother's name and the masculine version of my name have all been mentioned. And I often get called the masculine version of my name because people can't be arsed to pronounce my name properly as it is forrin. And I dont even pronounce it the way it should be said (ie with the correct accent). Gah. It really pisses me off.

Buriedundernappies · 02/02/2012 13:59

I wanted a Luca, but DP pointed out it really doesnt go with his surname. So it was vetoed.

Also like Tobias, but DP hated it Sad

In the end we went for Orlando. It suits him as well! Grin

Thetokengirl · 02/02/2012 15:17

Buried
we obviously have similar tastes in names!
I have a Lucas and wanted an Orlando :)
