Names you wanted to use but were talked out of...

I really wanted to call a son Pelham. Some Georgette Heyer hero who caught my fancy when I was aged about 14.
And I had a yearning for a daughter called Bathsheba.
You?
I'm not talking credible or in with a chance. I'm talking about the lovely names you wanted but everyone were too dim to see their wonder.

Wanted to call my daughter Marley but everyone said it was a dog's name :(

LineRunner · 29/01/2012 02:36

Quite Dickensian, though.

ScoutJemAndBoo · 29/01/2012 09:42

Jerico

Finn

I was sorely tempted by Patience as well. And Florence. And Darius for a boy.

Still love Darius actually. Don't know why people laughed.

Saskia

Apparently was an unpopular character in a soap ( non soap watcher here)

HuggyPomBear · 29/01/2012 21:47

Christopher, simply because I wanted to use the nn Kit. Have always loved it. DH didn't (we had a DD anyway).
Monty
Wilfred.

India- when combined with our surname turns out to be a porn star.
Ingrid
Astrid
Greta
Holly

What I would have wanted since I was a teenager:
Amethyst
January

marshmallowpies · 29/01/2012 22:34

Ramona. Still secretly hoping DP will wake up and decide he DOES like it, after all.

MrsCornish · 29/01/2012 22:34

Ray

MrsCornish · 29/01/2012 22:41

HugeFurryWishingStool DS has a slightly unusual name and when we registered his birth the Registrar was very excited, and told us her son was called Wolf. And I like Alan too. Alan Taylor, to be complete.

Fo0ffyShmo0ffer · 29/01/2012 22:43

If I had a girl I would have liked Snowy, Fluffy or Kitten.

I was told in no uncertain terms it was out of the questionHmm

I have a daughter. She has a lovely name. It isn't one of the above.

Llareggub · 29/01/2012 22:45

I was talked out of Taliesin and it would have suited DS2 so well.

Alligatorpie · 30/01/2012 03:55

Saffron for my first, I still love it.

Penelope for this baby ( I am20 weeks, so may still have time to change dh's mind)

Alligatorpie · 30/01/2012 03:57

Krissie - my dd's bests friend is Marly. I think it is really cute and different.

FelicityWits · 30/01/2012 04:14

I was talked out of Agamemnon (for the best, that one), Sindri and Lysander (both of which I still love and both of which 'suit' the DCs I wanted them for iyswim).

CheerfulYank · 30/01/2012 04:23

Rex. :(

All of the Casson family names: Saffron, Cadmium, Indigo and Rose. Though Rose will maybe be on the table for the next one... :)

Minty82 · 30/01/2012 11:09

My husband's vetoed Blythe, Faith and Marianne for a girl, and Daniel for a boy, which I would have loved... The baby's not here yet, so there's still all to play for, but sadly I think those are firmly off the table.

nailbitingfinish · 30/01/2012 13:27

Cleo.
Juno.
Solomon.

DP has terrible taste in names.

MamaLazarou · 30/01/2012 14:09

Pilot, Clay and Julius. My husband likes very ordinary names like Daniel and John. We compromised!

CEDR · 30/01/2012 16:08

Me and DH giggle over "Bambi Sapphire". I actually like both those names, but they're not acceptable.

DCgirl · 31/01/2012 17:00

Cesare (promounced 'chez-a-ray'). I'm not saying I definitely would've used it but I love the way it rolls off the tongue. However DP was aghast.

And he didn't like Taylor for a girl.

But he has no taste and likes frigging awful names - e.g. Sandra, Angela, Marie and Francis, to name but some that I've vetoed.

Rhubarbgarden · 31/01/2012 17:17

Anemone and Narcissa.. I was completely serious.

Actually she would have suited Narcissa very well, as it turns out.

4madboys · 31/01/2012 17:38

my dp wanted felix for ds1, but its the catfood my parents always used so i said no.

i liked Conan for ds4 but dp said no, i also liked rafferty, again vetoed by dp, he is rudi arlo, arlo has been mentioned on this thread i think>

i wanted dd to be penelope, but dp vetoed that, oh and felicity, she is a merryn, which i love and suits her perfectly.

i like frost for a girl, still do but dp said no!

there were various other, oh dp wanted one of the boys to be called Eugene!! i mean seriously?!

there are plenty more, we always struggled with names.

nailbitingfinish · 31/01/2012 19:56

DCgirl, I know a Cesare. Nice name.
