Clemency, saskia, sylvie or ????

Am having number 2 baby this week and we have our boys name sorted. However I'm stuck with girls. DH loves Saskia, I like it but rejected it for dd, I quite like sylvie as does dh. Other names which I like but dh has vetoed are:
Clemency
Cordelia
Cassandra
Cassia
Aurelia
Cecily
Meredith

Please help as if a girl this child shall be nameless.
We both like margot for a middle name.
Dd1 is Imogen which I still love.

Oh, please Clemency! I just adore the name- but I didn't think of it til after dd was named.

(mind you, dp says he would have vetod it, and dd says she would have left home at the first opportunity and changed her name if I had called her it......)

LeoTheLateBloomer · 24/01/2012 07:04

I love Clemency and Sylvie.

salvadory · 24/01/2012 07:14

That's interesting seeker, why does your dd dislike clemency? What is her name (nosy). What about nickname potential? I really dislike clemmy or clem.

My middle name is Clemency. I don't really like it very much and think Clemmie is actually quite nasty. Luckily I really like my first name so it doesn't matter at all :)

We thought about Sylvia for dd, and Cassandra was on dh's list, but I think way too tragic, and then we had a landlord with a dog called Cassie who got told off a lot, so that was the end of that (it was a long time before we actually had children though).

Sounds like you and your dh need to keep on looking for a name you both love.

Thanks Nooka, however baby coming on Thursday so time is one thing we don't have!

I think that Clementine is much nicer.

I would say Cecily-I don't like the rest.

shesparkles · 24/01/2012 07:59

I'd go for Saskis first, then Sylvie

TinkerMaloo · 24/01/2012 09:53

Sylvie is lovely, so is Aurelia :)

salvadory · 24/01/2012 09:57

Would you say aur ray lee ah or aur eee lee ah? The only one I ever knew was French and pronounced it the former way. I like both shame dh likes neither!

Salvadory, she says it's old fashioned and wet. She's actually called Grace ( that was quite unusual 16 years ago!) She quite likes it, but would prefer to be called Rowan, which was another of my favourites- also vetoed by dp!

Bonsoir · 24/01/2012 10:12

OP - your names are mostly quite bluestocking-y. Is that intentional? Is that the part your DH doesn't like? Men don't generally go for bluestockings...

PopcornBiscuit · 24/01/2012 10:16

Cassia or Clemency :)

Clemency - like
Cordelia - too posh and frilly
Cassandra - lovely, and you can have Cassie as nickname
Cassia - lovely, very pretty
Aurelia - like, but if your DH doesn't like it maybe not a winner
Cecily - too prim and lispy
Meredith - OK but not the prettiest on your list

PopcornBiscuit · 24/01/2012 10:17

"Men don't generally go for bluestockings..."

Bonsoir what do you mean? A bluestocking is an intelligent, educated woman.

Bonsoir · 24/01/2012 13:06

Yes, and a frump to wit. Men don't like frumps Wink

Love Sylvie!

BeattieBow · 24/01/2012 13:09

I love Clemency. am considering it for dc6.

I don't think it is particularly bluestockingish in the UK but maybe it is in France.

salvadory · 24/01/2012 22:52

What about margot as a first name?
I quite like the 30's names, daphne agatha etc, is margot blue stockingy bonsoir?? (I often think of the awfully named yet very attractive 80's soap actress Tracy scoggins-(lord knows why i can still remember her!!)when told men dont like a woman because of her name as usually names are the last things men are concerned with!)

Depends whether it's a man who cares more about the mind than the clothes...

justonemorethread · 24/01/2012 23:09

I'm going to throw in Cecilia
Just to add to the confusion

salvadory · 24/01/2012 23:30

Ah but does it popcorn, a name isn't a definitive indicator of what someone's mind is like, look at donna tartt (first example I could think of)
I like cecilia, dh says no (there's a pattern forming here!).

CheerfulYank · 24/01/2012 23:47

LOVE Clemency and Aurelia.

Cordelia, Meredith and Saskia also nice.

CheerfulYank · 24/01/2012 23:48

And I would say Ah-raylia.

salvadory · 24/01/2012 23:58

Margot clemency? Margot Frances? Maybe I'll sleep on it..
Aurelia has been crossed off the list by dh (ditto Cassandra, cassia and cecilia/cecily).

OP posts:
nooka · 25/01/2012 03:08

Ah, I missed the 'this week' in your OP! I can see your concern.

Imogen and Margot do sound quite good together. I like Margot Frances, or from your other names (unless your dh is vetoing them as middle names) Margot Meredith, Margot Cordelia or Margot Cecily/ia.
