Which would you go for? How do they sound/ come across to you? And do you think they will suit our DD as an adult? We are name numpties and don't have a clue. Many thanks

They all sound very 'trendy'. If I had to choose, probably Hannah.

PopcornBiscuit · 23/01/2012 11:04

Molly - not keen, nicknamey and faddy
Emily - lovely, classic (do you mind popular though?)
Cassie - very pretty, but sounds nicknamey so would use Cassandra as full name or go for Cassia
Jessica - like
Eva - OK but Eve/Eva/Ava/Evie very popular
Jasmine - like
Hannah - like, classic

MerryMarigold · 23/01/2012 11:09

Molly - kitchen maid, popular few years ago
Emily - ok, a but boring
Cassie - LIKE IT, LIKE IT
Jessica - v pop recently, but also a classic
Eva - v pop again
Jasmine - too girly, there's 2 in ds1's class!
Hannah - love it

How about Miriam? I love that name too.

minipie · 23/01/2012 12:01

I like them all except Hannah (which I am unusual in not liking!).

A couple of them are "nicknames" so I would want a proper name on the birth cert - so Cassandra nn Cassie, Mary nn Molly. That way she could use the more adult sounding name when she was older/for job purposes etc.

Montsti · 23/01/2012 12:37

I like Molly and Emily a lot and they are both fine for adults. For some reason find Molly less nicknamey/cutesy than Milly/Lilly/Evie etc...I wouldn't let popularity put you off..

Not keen on your other names.

MrsJohnDeere · 23/01/2012 12:45

Love Emily, Jessican, Hannah

Eva, jasmine, Molly very, very popular here....

pictish · 23/01/2012 12:47

All very popular except Cassie, which is a dog's name.

Hajdeby · 23/01/2012 12:57

I like them all but would personally avoid Molly and Eva because there are so many at baby and toddler groups locally, of course there might be fewer near you.

33goingon64 · 23/01/2012 13:01

Pictish, you mean you know someone with a dog called Cassie. I would never have associated Cassie with a dog. It's the most unusual one on the list and very pretty. Not sure how it would sound on an adult so best go for Cassandra as others have suggested.

Hajdeby · 23/01/2012 13:08

I have a (grown up) friend called Cassie and it really suits her, have never known a child called Cassie so I think its fine as a grown up name.

Never heard of a dog called Cassie either. Its hardly the girl equivalent of Rover, is it!?

ShowOfHands · 23/01/2012 13:10

Hannah. By a country mile. Beautiful name.

pictish · 23/01/2012 13:40

It must just be where I grew up in North East Fife then....50% of all lady dogs were called Cassie.
The other 50% were called Tara.

Ok - I'm exaggerating....but not that much - they were the two most common dog's names for bitches when I was a kid!

CrunchyFrog · 23/01/2012 13:41

I'd go with Jessica and use Jessie for short.

vitaminC · 23/01/2012 13:45

Molly - very trendy, will sound dated in a few years!
Emily - pretty, but VERY popular
Cassie - nice, but not a fan of nicknames as given names. Like is as a nickname for Cassandra
Jessica - Nice
Eva - Nice, but very popular
Jasmine - LOVE this one. Much nicer than most of the other flower names around (Poppy, Daisy etc) :)
Hannah - Nice but again quite popular.

suburbandream · 23/01/2012 13:46

Apart from Cassie and Hannah, they are all very popular names. I don't really like shortened names personally, and so I'd go for Hannah. Of course it is biblical (not sure if that is important to you - means Grace of God)

pictish · 23/01/2012 13:46

Out of them all, my favourite is Hannah Smile

hubbahubster · 23/01/2012 15:07

Honestly, they're all pretty dull. Bound to be other girls in her class with the same name, and having a pretty common name myself I HATED being 'xxxx H' at school. Hence DS has an unusual but not outlandish name. How about something similar to the names you like but not in the top 50 names? Like Popcorn suggested, Cassia instead of Cassie, or Jessamy instead of Jessica? Older names rather than modernized versions?

vitaminC · 23/01/2012 15:17

I don't understand the obsession with having a unique name these days! There can be a happy medium between top-10 names and uniquer-than-thou!

Like I mentioned in the "chavvy name" thread, I hated my name as a young child and would have given anything to be one of the many Sarahs/Emmas etc and blend in, instead of being teased for having a "posh" name.

My kids have names that are not unheard of, but not overused. They've never had another child in their class with the same name, but all have had at least one other namesake within the same school, which enables them to feel "normal", IMO.

MerryMarigold · 23/01/2012 15:19

Who said anything about unique names?

vitaminC · 23/01/2012 15:21

I was responding to hubbahubster saying the names were all dull and overused...

I'd go for Hannah. It was in our top 4 but didn't quite make the cut for DD.

minitoot · 23/01/2012 21:33

I love all of them apart from Hannah, which sounds a bit plain to me.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/01/2012 21:34

Love Cassie but would have it as nn for Cassandra.

MerryHippo · 23/01/2012 21:35

Hannah and Emily are classic and very nice.

Molly is sweet, but I much prefer Polly.

Cassie id a bit too 'nickname' and I cannot stand Cassandra. Cassia? Pretty name

Not keen on Jasmine or Jessica - just meh.

Eva, Eve, Evie - bloody everywhere
