Eving / Morning everyone!

Just wondered what everybody thought of the name Reagan (pron Ree-gan) for a little boy?

My colleague is having a nightmare thinking of names but this one seems to be sticking and i'm not too sure on it? (not that I have any influence on her babies name of course, just wondered what the general view on it was)

Is it American more than English? Sounds it to me?

It makes me think of King Lear's dodgy daughter, Regan, so I'd tend to think it was a girl's name.

GingerSnapsBack · 23/01/2012 00:28

I have only heard that used for girls and yes it is quite American. It's nice though

lisad123 · 23/01/2012 00:30

I like it, and met a young man with that name last week at horse riding.

Staverton · 23/01/2012 00:31

I think it's horrible sorry.

DaenerysTargaryen · 23/01/2012 00:32

I thought you were suggesting eving Blush

CanadaCalls · 23/01/2012 00:42

Hehe No, typo mixed with knackered but cant be arsed to move and go to bed mood :o

I though the American way was pronounced Ray-gan?

Oh well, I shall keep my opinions to myself and not utter a word to her :)

Also, I'm sitting her dreaming of adding a new addition to my family (secretly hoping I could have a girl) and just wondered if anybody had any unusual names?

If possible, nothing too chavtastic (see an arguement on another thread regarding chavvy names - didnt end good)

Thanks :)

In YOUR term - chavtastic. I think it's bloody awful.

MmeBucket · 23/01/2012 00:47

I'm American, and never heard of one, but I would definitely assume it was a girl.

CanadaCalls · 23/01/2012 00:50

lisaro Please dont be offended by the chavtastic comment :o

Mmebucket I think its more Canadian actually??

Doesn't float my boat.

lisaro · 23/01/2012 01:01

Haha Canada Don't worry - I was only covering my own back so you'd get the blane when someone does pop up to complain. 'Tis my opinion, though. Grin

Whitershadeofpale · 23/01/2012 01:04

Wasn't it the girls name in the exorcist? Not my cup of tea.

CanadaCalls · 23/01/2012 01:13

lisaro Seems walking on egg shells is sometimes necessary on MN :o

whitershadeofpale I thought it was! I knew i'd heard the name somewhere else!

randommoment · 23/01/2012 01:14

Yes it was the girl in the Exorcist, had just been thinking that when your post popped up Whiter.

randommoment · 23/01/2012 01:15

And Canada - it's not cool, it's crap. But how to tell her is a whole new kettle of fish!

CanadaCalls · 23/01/2012 01:17

random I think I'll keep this one all to myself - wouldnt want to offend mummy to be as she seems set on this one!

OP posts:
randommoment · 23/01/2012 01:17

As for names for a possible baby Canada, Canada itself is rather cool.

brdgrl · 23/01/2012 01:19

It is an Irish name, actually.

CanadaCalls · 23/01/2012 01:20

Haha! I did actually like Dakota when I was pregnant with DS and then I came round and realised I'd be to blame for all the years of bullying :o

randommoment · 23/01/2012 01:21

xpost - don't panic, my baby sis was dead set on Chelsea for about three weeks before the birth and two weeks after, but my adorable niece has safely ended up as Charley in the end.

brdgrl · 23/01/2012 01:21

...particularly popular in the Americas with those keen to express their Irish roots or their misguided love of one of the USA's biggets presidential disasters.

randommoment · 23/01/2012 01:23

Dakota was fine, then Dakota Fanning appeared, and poor child's name just gave everyone the sniggers...

CanadaCalls · 23/01/2012 01:28

brdgri I never knew that, every day's a school day hey :)

random I just knew i'd never live it down and people would take the piddle, not quite the start i'd planned for my newborn!

I went to primary school with a boy with that name, pronounced that way, in Oz. He would have been named before that president was elected though. [old gimmer emoticon] So it's not a hugely rare name. Without the "a", i think it would be a girl's name though.

TinkerMaloo · 23/01/2012 10:24

its a girls name! king lear/exorcist
