Help needed naming week old unnamed baby

Moobee · 22/01/2012 21:11

Our baby is a week old today and we're having trouble naming her. We wanted to get a hint of her personality before choosing a name so we've only just got to the shortlist phase. My dh is welsh and likes celtic type names, whilst I like a mix but want too give her a name that would not restrict her and so suit a high court judge or a DJ and anything in between.

We have:

Top 10
aoife
beatrice
bethan / bethany
carys
megan
olwen
rebecca
rhiannon / rhian
katherine
robyn

10 - 20
caitlyn
elodie
iona
orla
agnes
maegan
seren
helena
imogen
morgan

I'd appreciate the thoughts of mumsnetters on this one! I've put a photo of her on my profile taken the day she was born to help. She seems inquisitive, intelligent and we think she's beautiful (and I know all parents would probably say those things) so we wanted a name to reflect that.

Thank you!

Congratulations.
Your lovely little girl looks like Elodie, Orla, Miranda or Rebekah.

She is so beautiful. She is a Beatrice to me.

Moobee · 23/01/2012 14:56

Thank you to everyone who has commented - we've taken her to a pub for her first pub lunch and we've spent the time analysing how many votes each name got. Grin it's really interesting!

Carts...or Cerys...or Katherine. Lovely little lady!

FlirtyThirty · 23/01/2012 15:13

Oops...Carys!

ViolaCrayola · 23/01/2012 15:16

Aw, what a beauty. Congratulations! I'd say she's either (in order):

  1. Elodie (this just seems to really suit her)
  2. Rhiannon
  3. Olwyn

Would love to know when you've decided :)

ViolaCrayola · 23/01/2012 15:16

Or Bethan or Carys... lovely names.

juneau · 23/01/2012 15:19

If our DS1 had been a girl we were going to call him Carys (my grandma was Welsh), so I'm going to vote to Carys!

Cupcake83 · 23/01/2012 15:48

Olwen! Please pick Olwen, it was the name of my Grandma a truly inspirational woman (I'm really hoping for a girl so I can call her it :))

BubbaliciousBear · 23/01/2012 19:44

She is gorgeous! She looks like a Beatrice to me :)

ScoutJemAndBoo · 23/01/2012 21:30

DD thinks she looks like a perfect Rose.

TuesdayNightClub · 23/01/2012 21:43

Rhiannon. Rose is a good shout though, ScoutJem.

She's very cute!

pranma · 23/01/2012 21:53

Elodie Carys
she is beautiful :)

Collision · 24/01/2012 18:40

what did you decide on in the end?

Moobee · 24/01/2012 22:29

We're still thinking, it's very tough! :(

Not been super well in this household so not many naming discussions today. Need to get on with it though, we don't like calling her baby.

Congratulations - I love Iona and Elodie

smother · 25/01/2012 10:54

try not to stress or over-complicate the issue..... she will grow into her name whatever you decide and all the names you've listed are lovely.

you've got a long list there, why don't you and DH narrow it down to 2 favs each - hopefully one will appear on both lists!

shouldnotbehere · 25/01/2012 12:13

I love:

Robyn
Elodie
Orla

Mrswhiteinthekitchen · 25/01/2012 14:16

Carys was the name that jumped out at me when I saw the lovely picture.

strandednomore · 25/01/2012 14:21

Ooooh lovely baby, lovely names!

I think Seren, such a pretty name.
And my 2nd fave is Robyn.

flopsy1974 · 25/01/2012 15:14

From your list I love Beatrice and Katherine.

Moobee · 28/01/2012 11:40

Hello, I thought I'd let you know our final choice!

She is Seren Elizabeth. Seren means Star and Elizabeth was my grandmother's name. We think it's quite pretty but also versatile.

Thank you all for your feedback, we read every post. It really helped to have an idea of which names people objectively liked. :)

'Quite pretty'? I mean beautiful of course!

She is really gorgeous - looks like a Beatrice, Elodie or Iona to me!

Somehow she doesn't look as if she suits a name ending in -en -yn or -an, but I can't explain why!
