Seriously getting stressed over boys names

Thought we had it sorted as I love the name Travis and it's taken me and my partner months to agree

However, my partner wants the name Rex as the middle name as it was his grandads middle name who was a very influential person in his life

Spot the mistake

T-Rex :-(

So upset as I thought we had finally agreed on a name

Does it matter? I think T-Rex would be a really cool nickname!

I wouldn't worry about it. Firstly hardly anyone knows anyone's middle name and secondly a t Rex is a very cool dinosaur...!

meditrina · 21/01/2012 22:14

Oh dear! SWYM. Although I agree that T-Rex might be a good nickname, I can also see why you wouldn't want it.

What were your grandfather's names? Could you put one of them between Travis and Rex to break it up a bit, but keep the honour to the previous generations?

feedthegoat · 21/01/2012 22:23

I think that middle names are used so little in real life that it doesn't really matter.

When ds was born and we told people his name and several people commented that he'd be known as TJ as they are his first and middle names. I said nothing to register disapproval (just panicked silently!). By the time he was 2 weeks old everyone has forgotten his middle name and amongst the many nicknames he has TJ has never been one of them.

If you like the names go for it.

chickensaregreen · 21/01/2012 22:23

Would anyone even notice? No one has ever called me by my first initial and then by full middle name! He would be Travis Rex surname. Plus, he will be worshipped at school if they ever do notice!

ap1984 · 21/01/2012 22:24

I am desperately trying to think of another name
To put between Travis and Rex to break it up

Any ideas?

My granda was John and he didn't have a middle name
So doesn't work well xx

I worried so much about giving my two names that could be abbreviated/ made into silly nicknames that I nearly melted my head! I'm not a huge fan of Travis but if you're both happy with it, go for it. And to support previous posters, T-Rex is one of the best nicknames I can think of for a wee boy. Good luck with it all x

BuntyPenfold · 21/01/2012 23:32

T Rex is great. My DS would love it.

nooka · 22/01/2012 06:43

Why not Travis John Rex then? I'm not sure why that wouldn't work if you are really worried about T-Rex as a possible nn (and I agree with everyone else, I woudl have thought that most boys would think that was a fabulous nn).

RnB · 22/01/2012 07:10

Agree with Lockets Wink

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 22/01/2012 07:21

It's really, really not a problem!

I'm not personally a fan of Travis (though love Rex), but I wouldn't not choose these two names in that order for this reason at all.

ap1984 · 22/01/2012 08:15

Thanks ladies - feel a bit better this morning about it. Tbh it's like most if you say, who nowadays actually uses their middle name.

Might stick with it as I do love them and had my heart set on them xx

DharmaBumpkin · 22/01/2012 08:35

Oh DO stick with it :-) I don't even like Travis hugely but I think T-Rex is super cute!!

missimills · 22/01/2012 10:08

I agree with Lockets and RnB

CecilyP · 22/01/2012 12:46

I don't see that the T-Rex connection is likely to come up. He will either be known as Travis or Travis +Surname or Travis Rex +Surname or T R +Surname.

Italiangreyhound · 22/01/2012 16:23

Agree with CecilyP, he'll either be Travid Rex, or Travis R or TR, not T Rex and as others have said, for a little lad to have a cool dinosaur nick name is fun. Personally, I prefer Rex and would go for Rex Travis but I think you should stick with Travis Rex if that is what you want. Congratulations.

LittleWhiteWolf · 22/01/2012 16:33

I LOVE that potential nickname! Stick with it, please!

TBH middle names are much of a muchness. I'm a CJ and DH is a TJ yet neither of us have ever been referred to as such. My SILs initials spell BLT, yet no-ones ever commented on it. His initials will be TRSirname so him being referred to as T-Rex will mostly likely never happen, and even if it does, its pretty darn cool.

JestersHat · 22/01/2012 18:12

I'd avoid T-Rex, sorry. If you had to change one of the names which would it be?

Onion1968 · 22/01/2012 19:28

ha! do not worry about it. My first name begins with P, my middle name is Innes.......
I am 43 and only 1 person has ever worked out what it's like if you say it..........

MerryMarigold · 22/01/2012 19:33

I think it's pretty cool too. It's very subtle. Hardly anyone will notice, but if/ when they do, I bet it'll give them a smile. And when your ds is 3-8 he will absolutely LOVE being T-Rex! It's great.

ap1984 · 23/01/2012 16:39

Thank you everyone for your kind comments

Dropping Rex is not an option, it took us months to come up with Travis and its the only we have both really loved

I'm going to stick with my gut instinct and go with it, its not to everyones taste which is fine but I think its quite unique and a strong name too which is what we both wanted

Thank you everyone for making me feel better :-)

xx
