HH did a good sketch on this- the name which stuck in my mind was Toilet (shiny, new exciting invention - the Moon Unit of its day I suppose).

ThePsychicSatsuma · 19/01/2012 21:45

I have an ancestor called Surfeit, she was the 13th child in her family. My grandfather's middle name was Lancelot, not alot of those around these days!

BlueChampagne · 20/01/2012 12:50

My great great aunt was christened Jamesina (the Nigella of its day?)

TheGrandOldDuke · 20/01/2012 13:00

A bit like Thomasina?

Albrecht · 20/01/2012 13:26

Oh thanks op I heart a Victorian name. But it is American so not quite the same grandeur.

No382 for girls - John.
I do like Lovie though.

FriggFRIGG · 20/01/2012 14:55

shouldabeenwashedinajug · 20/01/2012 15:09

I went to school with a Lala!

CuppaTeaJanice · 20/01/2012 15:14

They did tend to have a lot of children though. Maybe they just ran out of nice names, or couldn't be arsed to think of more. Or maybe let their DCs choose?

CuppaTeaJanice · 20/01/2012 15:15

DP went to school with a Gaylord. Brother called Garfield. And they were born in the 1970s! Hmm

ShirleyForAllSeasons · 20/01/2012 15:16

Birdie!

ShirleyForAllSeasons · 20/01/2012 15:17

Floy for a girl.

FLOY!

and blinking Savannah is on there - that's mad, I always think of that as a fairly "modern" name

ShirleyForAllSeasons · 20/01/2012 15:19

Pink! Pink is on the Boy's list. (although didn't it used to be Pink for a boy, blue for a girl back then anyway?)

zipzap · 20/01/2012 15:20

Can you imagine what the names threads would be like in a Victorian MumsNet!! :o

zipzap · 20/01/2012 15:22

On a Victorian MN not in it. Doh.

ShirleyForAllSeasons · 20/01/2012 15:23

What's with all the girls names on the boys list?

BlueChampagne · 20/01/2012 15:25

TheGrandOldDuke yes just like Thomasina but not so well used. She didn't like it and everyone knew her as Hope.

TheSurgeonsMate · 20/01/2012 16:04

I'm just reading a case report of a legal action which took place in 1869 and it says here the "testator...had conceived a violent aversion to a man named Featherstone Alexander." Great name!
