Duncan. or maybe not.

After going round in circles quite a lot, DH and I have come back to the name Duncan.

It had come up before in random reading out of names from book and DH said no , I wasn't sure as I know a fairly unpleasnant 'Dunc'. (Although I don't see him much.)

It's come up again and he's now quite keen.

it would be Duncan Allan .

a) what do you think

But unless the OP is going to refer to baby as Dunkernallan all the time then that's not really a consideration is it?

AS long as your surname doesn't give some odd or teaseable acronym from DA then go for it. I know 2 adult Duncans both mid 20s.

Initials would be ok. Allan is family name which we are definitely using, so i have had to watch what words can be made. Luckily surname letter doesn't make too many!

My criteria for name picking is that I'd like a real (not made up) name which is not used too often. So un usual, but not out there IYSWIM. A Scottish name would be nice, although DC1 didn't end up with one :)

I know a very nice Duncan, and it's a good solid name as far as I'm concerned. Douglas I think is even nicer, though.

i like Douglas too (probably more) but DH doesn't. :(

My ds is Duncan - great name! Occasionally gets called Dunc, but usually full name.

A nice strong name. I have a good friend called Duncan, and no-one ever shortens it.

I like it v. much. If we were ever to have another dc (which we're not), it'd be a Duncan. Or an Elspeth if it were a girl.

It was on my list - dh vetoed Douglas and we swithered on Duncan but went for something else. I know a 60 year old, 35 year old and 3 year old Duncan. Means brown skinned warrior I think or swarthy warrior. Good solid name in my view. The 35 yo Duncan was always called Duncey round my way.

One of my best friends at school was called Duncan. He did call himself Dunc, I guess it is the obvious nn. Still think it's a cool name though :)

And here I am. It is truly the BEST name for a boy in the world, closely followed by Adrain and Gavin.

I just think it is a good strong honest name. I know two Duncans, both are good, strong honest men.
