Too twee?

DD1 is Eden. Totally suits her and i love it.

Going for 20 week scan tomorrow and if baby cooperates we will find out if we are having a boy or a girl. I have variously considered the names Rowan and Cameron for a girl but recently stumbled across the name Elodie which i absolutely adore.

My question is, is having Eden and Elodie too many "E"'s?

No it's beautiful.

hermionestranger · 09/01/2012 22:34

Love it! Grin

ilooklikegrotbagstoday · 09/01/2012 22:35

Very pretty.

oikopolis · 09/01/2012 22:54

Elodie is faboo.

JestersHat · 09/01/2012 23:05

Elodie is very pretty and it's fine with Eden.

toobreathless · 09/01/2012 23:55

Not twee, two beautiful names & sound lovely together. I personally think having matching last sounds for example Elodie & Poppy sounds more 'matchy' than using the same first initial.

But I would say that as I an seriously considering Helena for my as yet unconcieved DD2 (DD1 is Hazel) :)

nooka · 10/01/2012 05:32

I wouldn't go for two 'E's personally.

RubyLovesMayMay · 10/01/2012 13:10

I love Eden for a boy (its unisex I think) DH vetoed it Sad

Gorgeous names, Eden & Elodie together.

Im not usually fan of names to "match" a sibling thing but this fit somehow.

TaraPalmerCocaCola · 10/01/2012 13:44

Love Cameron for a girl!If I had a little girl(I have 2 ds's)I would have Cameron high up on my list. Also love Cammy as a nn.
DS1 name begins with E and I considered naming ds2 an 'E' name but in the end thought it was a bit much.
FWIW I personally don't like Elodie at all..it sounds like you've missed the M from Melody(just my opinion of course).
If you wanted an E name how about Eloise?I think that is so much prettier than Elodie.

PercyFilth · 10/01/2012 13:44

Where has Elodie come from? It crops up here all the time.

The only Elodie I have ever come across was a French baby, born in oh, 1980ish I think. It was not a common name then, even in France, and I've never met another.

snuffaluffagus · 10/01/2012 14:57

I think they go really well together!

FlossMacDoss · 10/01/2012 19:41

Love both Eden and Elodie but the repeating 'e' and 'd' makes them sound too similar together IMO.

I second Eloise - gorgeous

QOD · 10/01/2012 19:54

Ooooooooh love it

Clawdy · 10/01/2012 20:13

Both lovely names but quite difficult to say "Eden and Elodie"...bit of a tongue twister!

dippydoodah · 10/01/2012 20:24

I think they go fine together. Elodie is lovely!

MerryMarigold · 10/01/2012 20:26

Btw, how do you say Elodie? Is it like 'Melody' or e-load-y?

lynlynnicebutdim · 10/01/2012 20:28

Well we are having a girl it seems so this comes into sharp focus. Still loads of time to decide i guess but i do love Elodie. I had never heard it before, before seeing it on here about 3 weeks ago and then meeting one at the toddler gymnastics class I do with Eden.

I do agree that repeating E and D sounds do sound odd to my ears but i wondered if i was being overly concerned about it. Seems the jury is split.

percyfilth when i googled the name i got two origins. One said it was a German name meaning "wealth from afar" and another saying it was French meaning "Marsh Flower".

I have to admit the flower association plays into my liking it so much as well. DSD has a nature associated name, as is Eden. Elodie would play into that theme as well without being really obvious.

decisions, decision!

merrymarigold it is pronounced El-od-dee if you are an english speaker and Al-od-day if you are french.

No - Eden and Elodie sound silly together imho. Don't like Cameron or Rowan though, sorry.

stuffthenonsense · 10/01/2012 20:35

Lovely name....but 12 years on, post addressed to miss E xxxxx......which of the girls opens it?

PercyFilth · 10/01/2012 20:45

lyn What I meant was why has it suddenly come to prominence, is there some celebrity called Elodie or has one named their child Elodie? That is often the seed of popularity, so what have I missed :o

As you say you discovered it on here, you won't be able to tell me, but hopefully someone can!

BTW it's prn El-oh-dee in French too - at least that's how my friends said it. If you have heard different, well, accents can play a part.

MerryMarigold · 10/01/2012 20:48

So it rhymes with Melody then...

Or is it El-OH-dee?

PercyFilth · 10/01/2012 20:53

Evenly stressed, like Melody as you say.

Lonnie · 10/01/2012 21:32

I love both names and I have had them on my short lists (dd2 is Eloisa so Elodie got vetoed by dh)

I would have them together.

Kinda happy we didnt go with Eden for dd3 now as we live RIGHT by the River Eden now..

hohohoshedittant · 10/01/2012 22:43

Like Elodie, but wouldn't have two E's and with the 'd' sound as well they're too similar. Maybe Elodie as a middle name?
